Has anyone's doctor approved plain dextromethorphan? I'm dying here. Been coughing nonstop since Friday. And by nonstop I mean I've gotten about an hour of sleep total since Friday. Also, I'm changing panty liners like diapers because I keep peeing on myself because I'm coughing so hard and so much. I know Robitussin is ok, but I lost my sheet that says what else is approved, and Robitussin isn't touching the cough. Also, calling my dr's office is not an option because they won't call me back till about Friday anyway, and hopefully I'll be over this by then...

Google is amazing   I typed in "dextromethorphan pregnancy category."  It's category C.  You just said you're already taking Robitussin, which contains dextromethorphan...

That said, I know most docs say it's fine, especially in third tri.  Some people really hate taking anything but I don't think not treating something is the way to go, especially when you need to be well for L/D.  In some ways it depends what you're comfortable with.

It was ok-ed by my doctor, and my lifesaver a few weeks ago when I had an awful cold!!

I have had a horrible cough for the past 3 weeks! I am going through panty liners like crazy too. Even if I just peed something still seems to come out. Ugh.

I've done the DM and cough drops. Doesn't cure it but it had made it somewhat tolerable. My doctor prescribed tessalon perles which is a cat c drug. I've been too nervous to take it though.

I would ask your doctor to be sure. I've also tried spoons of honey, hot tea, steamy showers, and benadryl...I have bad allergies too yay...Good luck!

Bless you all for answering! The info I found online was really conflicting, so it's good to know at least some OBs are recommending it. Just sent DH to the store for some. Maybe I'll get some sleep tonight!

At least you're just using pantiliners and not full on pads. Cuz I'm using pads due to the excessive uncontrollable cough/pee action, and I'm still having to change my undies/pants. It's ridiculous. Plus...my abd/chest hurts from all the coughing.

I feel you. Both sides of my ribs, right in the middle of my chest, all the way down my sides, and both of my hips hurt from the coughing. I've been off work the last 2 days so I've been able to get away with pantiliners. Going back to work today though, so I'll probably upgrade to a super pad just in case. I did sleep alllll night last night though thank GOD, so hopefully this is on the downhill slope! Hope y'all all get to feeling better soon!
