Medical Alert Question

Hi,

My dd is 6.5 years old and has a bleeding disorder.  She wears a medical ID bracelet and is great about wearing it. She takes it off to bathe and sleep.  However, there have been a few times that I realized in the mad rush I forgot to put it on her.

Like today, I wasn't feeling well so I stayed home from work which means our morning routine changed.  I came home from dropping her off and saw the bracelet. :( I felt awful.

Does anyone have a sticker on their child's car seat or one of the things that goes onto seat belt or car seat strap? Seems redundant being that she typically wears the bracelet.  But, can never be too safe I guess.  I also have another bracelet for her that is a velcro one (for gymnastics) maybe if I leave that one in my car it will remind me to check her wrist before we leave?

Thanks for any help or suggestions

Re: Medical Alert Question

  • I have a diagnosis sheet laminated in the car in the pocket in front of Nate's car seat. It has EMT/ICE in big letters so it would hopefully catch someone's eye.

I think what I am also going to do is make a laminated luggage tag at Kinkos/Staples and have the main points on the back. "Hearing loss, developmental delay, phone numbers, etc." I think I should be able to attach it to the side of the carseat with a rubber band or zip-tie. You could do something similar and attach it to her backpack. Don't put any identifying info on there like her name - just contact numbers In Case of Emergency and her primary diagnosis. HTH!

  • You ladies are so far ahead of me on this one. I have been thinking about a medical bracelet since Sir I started having seizures, and now I am reminded that there is so much more that I should be doing. Maybe I will make this my self care challenge this week: for my peace of mind!!!
