A Day Late and a Buck Short: Self-Care, Check In.

I hope everyone had a great week and a great MLK day.  Now, it's time.  So, tell us...

Last week's self-care challenge was to just say no - don't add any comitments to your calendar, don't take on any special tasks or responsibilities.  Just say no.  Did you do it?  How did it feel?

If you didn't do the challenge last week, what else did you do in the real of self-care?

This week's Challenge:  This is the last "monday" of the month.  So, this week's challenge is a create your own.  Tell us what you will be challenging yourself to do this week.

I took on quite a few commitments last week, but I left Sunday completely unscheduled. We slept in, ate lunch at ihop, and just spent the day hanging out as a family. It was really nice.

This week I am challenging myself to walk on the treadmill at least 4 of 7 days. I am going on a beach vacation in a few months, and I am using the trip as a big motivator to get my health/fitness back in check.

  • Not that I've responded to these but maybe I should.  I am knee-deep in planning a conference for ESY for the advocate group I run.  I also agreed to speak at a conference in Orlando this summer so I'm trying to do fundraisers to get us there.  Perhaps I should have seen the "just say no" thing earlier :P  I had to say no to running for the school board.  I can't do school board/parent PTO (we're going to work on becoming a SN PTO in the district), advocate group, etc.
  • I said no to a play-date. I feel kind of bad but we just have so much going on and it's non stop.

For real self care, I joined a gym a month ago and I've been going 3-4 times a week. It's been crazy to give myself an hour that often but it's helped my mood, given me more energy and just makes me happier in general. It helps that DH isn't working anymore, obviously. Sometimes I even go to Target afterwards- alone!

  • Let's see, last week I said no to lunch with a friend. I really wanted to see her, but with dh working swing shift, going home for lunch with him is the only time I get to see him during the day.

This week I challenge myself to organize Sir I's medical records, IEP documents etc in a more managable system.

  • I'm at like the opposite of saying no. :) I'm WAH PT, and my boss called to ask if I'd be willing to write more stories per week for a flat rate rather than a per-piece rate. I think I'm going to negotiate a little, but I do think it's going to be a good thing overall and it's something I want to do, so I think I'm okay with saying yes. :)

I joined my gym's Biggest Loser program and have been doing really well with tracking my calories and exercising. I did yoga last week (among other things) and hope to be able to do it again this week. I hope this will be what finally gets me over the hump to lose the 10 pounds I've been wanting to lose, and it's definitely good for getting me to take time for myself to exercise.

  • i said "no" to working today while i'm getting over the stomach bug--i'm so proud of myself! i REALLY want to get work done but i have been sick as a dog, and even though i'm no longer throwing up i feel like i've been run over by a truck. so it think it's really for the best for me to just watch stupid TV today.
