Not in a stuffed-animals-suck kind of way, but more a we-have-too-many way. I will never again buy a stuffed animal for anyone having kids. They are adorable, but what do you DO with them? We have so many stupid teddy bears, beanie babies, etc that I think I'm just going to have to start donating them. It's absolutely ridiculous and all they do is collect dust.
And now I have to decide if the bear from great-grandma goes or if I instead get rid of the giant giraffe from Great Aunt Susan* (*name changed to protect the innocent, LOL). Ugh.
Anyone else in this boat? Have you found a good solution for them?
Re: I hate stuffed animals
See, I guess the problem is that I don't want them hanging either. I have asthma so my DS could some day too. I don't want dusty stuffed animals hanging out in his room that could eventually become a problem for him. I want to keep 4 or 5 stuffed animals and no more.
When I was 4 months pregnant, my MIL brought over two laundry baskets FULL of stuffed animals. And they aren't even cute snuggly ones; there's a snake, an ENORMOUS turtle with one eye falling off, various lizards, and a shiit ton of dinosaurs. They were clearly hand-me-downs, too. H insisted on one of those hanging net things to put them in. I think I'm going to have start removing these reptiles one by one to make room for the "special" animals we got from other people.
But seriously, what do you do with them? And why do people think kids need so many?

I agree that one or two special ones are awesome. One of the "keepers" in my DS's room is my bear from when I was a child. He has no nose, strange button eyes and a bald patch on his butt, but I LOVE my old bear. The other "keeper" is the soft, floppy rabbit that DH bought specifically for DS when I was 6 months pregnant. There is sentimental value there.
However, the tie-dye Build-A-Bear that is in full umpire gear, with sunglasses, a cell phone, sparkly pink sneakers with roller skates attached to them? yeah, I can do without that one.
I agree with you so much!!! We "only" have about 10, but I have no place for them, and one is a gigantic giraffe. We have them basically piled up on a shelf, because the storage in our nursery is overrun with other miscellaneous extras (I have enough quilts and blankets to open up a small homeless shelter).
I was going to get one of those nets that hang in the corner of a room, but I don't even have space for that! And I'm too afraid to get rid of one for fear that the person who gave it to LO will ask about it...but at this point, I've lost track, and he's not even four months old yet.
It'll be hard for LO to have a special little stuffed animal friend when he has three dozen.
My mother always hated them when I was growing up- now I understand why! I never give them to people as gifts.
We have a hanging basket in LOs room of bears that were mine when I was younger and a small storage bin on a shelf full of the ones she has gotten so far. She has only gotten maybe around 10 from other people
I'm with you, Dotty! We have the same problem. They all just
sit at the foot of DS1's bed piled up. I need to just bite the bullet
and take some to Goodwill that he has no interest in. Oh, and I
DETEST the holiday specific ones. Even more useless!
I totally agree with this. My FIL and his wife decided to start us a collection of giant holiday stuffed bears -- one for every year. They are the ones they sell at Wal-Mart with the year on the foot. I was complaining to DH about this as we unpacked our Christmas stuff this year saying that we don't have room for these giant wastes of space (and they're ugly, too), and it's only going to get worse as the years wear on. Well, this year, she showed up with a bear for us and a miniature version for DS. ARRGGHHH! If you're going to force a collection on our family and show up every Christmas to make sure they're on display, please make it a collection of SMALL items!! I'm about to have to buy a storage unit just for these ridiculous bears....
Your suppose to keep them??? A new one every year means replace last years. Opps my bad
This...my DD has way too many and never carried one around...it's only thanks to the Doc McStuffins doctor kit we got her for Christmas that she has really began playing with them...luckily DS only got one little bear so far...so I guess he can just share with DD...hoping this doesn't change!

Awww, shoot...I should have played that off earlier. Now it's too late. At my FIL's house, the bears literally overrun the place at Christmastime. They are the creepy bear people in my lives, and they want us to join them.
