Feed per demand or by the clock?

Hi ladies, I'm just wondering when can we stop feeding our LO per demand and feed them every 23 hours? My LO is gonna be 6 weeks this Friday. The thing is I don't like it when he just want to feed for 3 hours, I mean I feed him and sleeps but when I'm gonna put him on his crib he's hungry again. It's just draining me out. TIA ladies.

  • Are you formula or breast feeding?

  • I always feed on demand. Babies go through growth spurts and sometimes want more food than others. I wouldn't want anyone feeding me by the clock; I want to be fed when I'm hungry. I assume my kid wants the same!

  • I'm Breastfeeding.

  • We're all drained and tired. But honestly, babies aren't aware of clocks. They're aware of hunger and needing comfort. Are you honestly considering letting your LO go hungry/be in need of comfort for hours because it "isn't time yet"?

  • Feed on demand. Itll get easier...shes to young for a schedule

  • If your breastfeeding, definitely feed on demand. Your supply is generally lower at night and there's no way to tell how much LO is getting. If they want to nurse a lot they are most likely hungry and going through a growth spurt.

Ha, but yeah. That's not what you were driving at, OP, was it?
As long as I'm BFing, I plan to feed on demand.

  • I don't understand feeding by the clock. If a baby is hungry, he needs to eat - it doesn't matter if you are tired, this is what we signed up for. Definitely by demand. It gets easier, I promise.

  • Definitely feeding on demand, he always lets me know when he's hungry without fail lol. Otherwise he's usually a very content baby

  • I feed on demand. I'm BF. I try to keep her up more during the day and feed more often to get her to be fuller at night. We still wake up about every 2.5 to 3 hours and I'm fine with that. Nothing in this world makes me happier than my baby gaining weight from the nutrition I give her. Even if it means I'm drained and have to nap with her sometime during the day.

  • I still feed on demand as well. I can't image feeding my LO by the clock just because her stomach is so small so she couldn't go for longer then 2-3 hours without anything. I have notice a pattern of when she eats. She eats about every 2 hours and always around the small time of day. Some days she wants to wait 3 hours other she wants to eat sooner. I just take my cues from her. I know its draining but its for our LO well-being so I think we can all deal with it for as long as needed.

  • I mostly do on demand, but if he's not going through a spurt and wanting to eat every hour (yes exhausting!!!) I try to maneuver the feedings around the same time. I do, 3 a.m. 6 a.m.,  9 a.m. noon..... etc. But it all flexes around.....,
