How much is not enough?

LO is sick right now w/ a cold and ear infection.  For the last 3 days she hasn't been eating much but how much is not enough?  Today she's had about 14 oz of formula and some pears w/ oatmeal. She will get 1 more bottle before bed but will most likely eat only 4 oz out of it. Yesterday she ate about 20 oz ...maybe a little less.  We are getting wet diapers just not sopping wet.  She refused a bottle but was smacking her lips so that is why I tried the pears and she gobbled them up.

Re: How much is not enough?

  • My DD has a throat infection right now. I just put her to bed and she only ate 15oz of formula. My doc said if she is eating poorly I can offer her pedialyte to prevent dehydration and replace some nutrients and minerals. On a good day she will only eat 25oz anyways. She was refusing solids until today. Her antibiotics also have given her terrible diarrhea so I am pretty worried!

I hope once she's off the antibiotics her formula consumption will return to normal.

  • I tried giving her pedialyte but she refused it totally! I gave it to her in a syringe and she threw it up then I tried it w/ a dropper and it was a success! :)

  • In the same boat here. DS has a cold and is teething terribly (all 4 top teeth at the same time...hoping the last two break through so my poor baby can get some relief). He only ate about 16 oz yesterday, but even before he got sick he was refusing to finish his 6 oz bottles.

He would barely take his morning bottle I only got 2 oz in him (plus a little bit of oatmeal), before  I took him to the sitters this morning and asked her to give him the rest of the bottle.

I hope my sweet baby gets better soon and returns to me, because he has been a little booger (our pet name for him when he is crabby). Although he did sleep a lot longer through the night last night, so here is hoping he returns to normal. I put a little bit of vicks on his feet and it seems to have helped with his cough! I hope that since he is peeing and pooping that means he is getting enough. I know I don't like to eat when I am sick and since he has A LOT of my personality (and stubbornness) I am hoping it is just because he doesn't feel well.

  • I was told not to worry until as long as she was still wetting diapers fairly regularly.
