PG>35 Weekly Check-In: Baby Overload Edition

Hi, everyone! As always, I hope you had a great weekend, and a lucky few of you might even have a day off today since it is Martin Luther King Day. It was great to see so many positive updates over the last week about NT scans, amnios, and anatomy scan results! Let's keep the great news coming!

We bought our last piece of nursery furniture yesterday--a rocker recliner from La-Z-Boy. We didn't pay the price shown on the Web site because of the fabric (it was a tan color and we liked it just fine, so we jumped on it!). This is actually the smallest rocker recliner La-Z-Boy sells, perfect for my 5'2" frame: https://www.la-z-boy.com/product/12-3694/Harbor-Town-Small-Recliner/ SUPER comfortable and I'm sure it will hold up better than your average nursery-type glider.

However, on the whole, I am experiencing a little "baby fatigue." It seems like everything I do is baby related--read baby books, practice Hypnobabies tracks, research baby gear, ponder furniture arrangement in the nursery, stalk my registry, etc. I need to just step away and take a break for a day or two. Anyone else feel like that sometimes?

Okay, on to the check-in! Hoping to hear good news soon from some of our January moms who still have babies baking!

Re: PG>35 Weekly Check-In: Baby Overload Edition

  • QOTW: I think I had a bit of baby overload the first time around. This time it's nice b/c I already have a lot of the gear and clothes (if it's a girl), so I don't have to spend as much time researching and shopping. I have a few projects around the house that need attention, or I spend time with friends away from the kids. Where I'm really getting the overload is that I have several friends who are also expecting and there's a few that seem incapable of talking about anything not related to pregnancy or babies.

Updates: I'm in the 2nd tri and feeling much better. Next week I have a check-up and we should be scheduling the a/s for early March...exciting!

The last couple of weeks I watched seasons 1 & 2 of Homeland.  That got my mind off of baby stuff.  Honestly I am just so tired right now I can't do anything baby related.  I have a couple of unfinished baby projects on my craft/sewing table and I have come to terms with the fact that they just won't get done before next week.  I'm okay with that.

I have had a cold/sinus infection thing going on for the past week and it has been awful.  I *think* I am on the mend but I still feel pretty crappy.  I have my last weekly visit today and then my C/S is next Thursday.  I am getting pretty nervous...just hoping everything goes smoothly and baby girl is healthy and scream-y.  I am also a little sad that I won't be on this board anymore:(

  • DH and I have been trying to plan fun things for just the two of us to do as a couple. Our last fun outing was to see Spamalot :) It's nice to have a break from what seems to have already become a babycentric life.

    Updates:
I am currently recovering from a nasty stomach bug/food poisoning that came on with a quickness this past Saturday aft/evening. I slept most of Sunday, hydrated like a champ and am happy to report I'm starting to feel human today> Although, I doubt I eat pizza for a long time to come........

Also, had my 29 wk checkup on Friday- LO weighing in at a healthy 3lbs. I also passed my GTT- all signs point to normal! I now start my checkups every 2 weeks.

Wow!! Already?!! Will be thinking about you - that came so fast! :)

Well, don't be a stranger- I want to hear updates and can't wait to hear about the birth. :)

  • Hi everyone!

I'm actually feeling the opposite! I have been so busy with holidays, then my children's birthdays, now closing/moving into our new home on Friday, that I was just telling my husband I feel guilty I haven't spent much time preparing for this baby.  To help pass the first trimester worries though I dedicated myself to work projects.

Lovelyday, how do you get a measurement of baby's weight at a normal checkup? Do they do an US each time?

I am counting down my progesterone shots, this Thurs only leaves 3 left! I have an appointment the 28th, and then go every two weeks. I haven't been checked since 26 weeks, so I'm anxious to find out if the bedrest has kept me from dilating/effacing or not. Either way, I go back to work then after making it to 30 weeks.

So sorry to hear about your bout of food poisoning! Do you think it was a specific topping on the pizza that caused it? Glad you are feeling better, at least. I went to NYC 3 years ago to see Spamalot and it was so much fun. I loved every minute of it. Congrats on your excellent GTT results! Let's show those 25 year-olds how it's done!!

  • Elizabeth- since my doc accidentally ran a quad screen I didn't ask for, that could not be combined w/my excellent NT scan for a semi-quantitative result and that came back "abnormal"- they've decided to give me an U/S every mo. in my third trimester. I guess part of it was b/c I opted out of the amnio as well. So, that's where they are guesstimating his weight.

Danuli- well, I don't think the pizza caused it, but that's what came up when I got sick- sorry TMI! :)

  • QOTW: I feel like I'm just starting to focus on baby stuff!! DH and I have been so nervous we'd have another loss i think it was really hard for us to feel ok with really getting ready for LO but we kicked it into high gear this week!

Congrats and Welcome to new posters and Good luck to those who are getting ready for the big day!!! I haven't had much time to keep up with posts everyday but am definately keeping tabs on everyone!

We had an ultrasound on Friday, LO is measuring exactly average, my cervix is long and closed and he's almost 2lbs so all is good, and he again evaded posing for a good photo for us. He was actually sucking on his toes the whole time, the u/s tech felt bad she couldn't get a better shot, I have a feeling this LO will be keeping us on our toes!! I have a follow up for my blood pressure this week, fingers crossed it was just a fluke and I'm back down to normal!

Nothing really to update very much, but now I feel strange that I dont' have more of a belly at this amount of time in.  Course I really have no clue what to compare to.  No appointments until Feb 5th, so it will be a while.  Starting to do research for baby stuff and planning!  We are now out on facebook and at work!

  • Since we home school, and I'm with all of my kids pretty much 24/7, getting out of kid/baby mode is difficult. Coffee with a friend, going to Hobby Lobby and NOT looking at stuff for the kids' rooms, going for a walk, or sewing for a while all help a lot.

Just lurking a bit right now, feeling oddly out of the loop and checking in. First time in my adult life I'm not in "and when we have our next baby"- mode. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's a little bittersweet & uncomfortable to think of moving on to only growing kids up, rather than growing some and then having more.

Emmett is 4 weeks tomorrow - HOW did that happen already??? He came through a bout of RSV after his first week, unscathed - thank God. He's over 11lbs, but I won't know for sure how big until next week when we have a check up. I'm having to put up some of his 0-3 clothes already :(

  • QOTW: More is never enough when it comes to baby info.  I had 4 days off work and I was not permitted to leave the couch and it was all babies all the time on TV and google.  I do take a lot of naps.

Updates: I only have 26 days left until she gets here.  Taking three weeks off of my pregnancy seems like a lot of time.  I finally found a BP med that is working and my BP is completely back to normal.  This is such a relief because the next step would have been hospitalization until the baby was born.  I am both ready and not ready at the same time to have this kid.  I can't believe that it is really almost time.

  • LovelyDay - so sorry to hear about your food poisoning. I can't even imagine, I had it once, but on top of the pregnancy stomach aliments Ugh!

Updates - getting over a cough/cold, and scheduled our NT scan for next Friday. Taking a trip to central Oregon this coming weekend so we can get out of here and relax for a little while.

QOTW: We have pretty much avoided very much baby planning so far. I think we've both been too anxious. The only thing we decided was that we need to move to a bigger house, but we haven't done much about it yet.

  • QOTW:  I don't feel like I've experienced that so much this time around.  With DD, I was constantly reading books on pregnancy, researching the best gliders, cribs, etc, and I kept up religiously with those weekly pregnancy updates on what baby is doing.  Not so much this time!  I remember to check the pregnancy updates maybe once a month.  And then I feel guilty for not paying as close attention as I did with DD.  :  It took me about 5 minutes to find a crib since I knew I wanted one pretty much the same as we got DD.  And we already have so much baby stuff that we don't have a lot to buy except for clothes and some things for his room.  I have spent a little time researching paint colors and decor for his room though.  I never took baby classes the first time around and we did just fine, so I don't plan on taking any this time.

Updates:  I'm getting over a cold and spent most of the weekend taking care of DD who had some lovely virus that involved high fevers AND vomiting (yeah, try to get ibuprofen into someone who has an unstable stomach - it's not easy!).  I hate this time of year!

  • Update:  I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and I have my first OB appointment on Thursday.  I can't remember if I had this info yet when I posted last week but I had an u/s with my RE last Tuesday and we had one baby with a healthy heartbeat!  I'm having pretty mild symptoms, which freaks me out but I think they're enough to not freak me out too much.

QOTW:  I'm still at the "take in all the information that I can" stage... I guess TV and reading non-baby related books are some ways that I get away from it but so far I'm okay with the information overloading.

I'm so glad to hear they found something that worked for you! Hang in there and I'll be saying a prayer that you get in some quality "cooking" time and LO and you have a safe and healthy delivery!

  • QOTW: I don't think I've really experienced baby overload.  I'm entering frantic mode, so my last week or so has been filled with putting the nursery together, finding a pediatrician, looking forward to my shower on Sunday, etc.  I'm sure once I have all of the BIG things done, I'll just be ready for this baby to come and will easily be able to overload.  If that happens, I have a few books I've been wanting to read, and an entire DVR filled with movies and TV shows I've saved to watch over maternity leave.

So glad you found a med that is working for you!! What a relief to know you will get to be at home for the last weeks and not in the hospital. I changed your due date in the file and next week it will post as a planned c/s on 2/18.

So glad you found a med that is working for you!! What a relief to know you will get to be at home for the last weeks and not in the hospital. I changed your due date in the file and next week it will post as a planned c/s on 2/18.

I am not a planned c/s.  We will induce on the 18th and hopefully I will not need the c/s.  She is in a good position to come out on her own so he thinks that with a little encouragement she will come out on her own.

    BFP on IVF #2 6/29/2012. Beta #1 7/3 = 522; Beta #2 = 1180; Beta #3 = 6491 image BabyFruit Ticker

Embarrassed Sorry. Yes, that is an important distinction! I will put you down as a planned induction for 2/18. Sending many good vibes for a beautiful vaginal birth your way!

  • QOTW:  I haven't really gotten into baby overload yet because I've been waiting to be in the clear from the chromosomal standpoint.  Which we just hit!  So, up until now I've been keeping busy with work and other household stuff.  Now, maybe I can start looking at baby stuff!  :)

Update:  I had my NT scan last week where everything looked good. They changed my EDD to 7/21/13 (could you update my info) and predicted a boy.  My Verifi results came back this week and I'm very low risk for the trisomies and they confirmed a boy!  We are so elated.

  • Sorry I'm late! I like your rocker I'm still looking for one too.

QOTW: I really have just registered and gotten into the world of baby stuff so I'm not too sick if it yet. I have such a hard time deciding in what to get though. But I will say that my guilty pleasure is trashy reality tv and celebrity gossip. I'm also always reading something non baby related on my kindle.

Updates: I'm in the third tri! I have an appt Thursday but nothing much new happening. We painted the nursery this weekend. I gave in and went with pink and its actually really pretty.

  • AmyM72 - Do you live in Oregon? I live in Portland, and my DH's family has a place in Central Oregon (Black Butte Ranch) where we spend a weekend every few weeks. I LOVE Central Oregon, have fun!

QOTW: I'm only 16w and change so I don't have baby fatigue yet. I really haven't researched anything yet so as not to get myself overwhelmed. I'm the last of my friends to have kids so luckily that means I'm getting a lot of hand-me-downs. It's great not just for financial reasons but also saves me the stress of researching and choosing amongst all the zillions of options of everything.

Updates: I've been having some extreme fatigue, and combined with a cold recently, I've been out sick from work 4 times in the last 3 months. I'm out of sick days now, and, at my company if we are out 3 times in a 12 month period we have violated the attendance policy and start corrective action. My boss hasn't said anything but I'm waiting for it. Fortunately, and most importantly, baby is healthy! We're looking forward to our a/s on Feb. 11!

This is the first time I have posted in the weekly thread and really, I haven't posted a lot yet period.  My name is Cali and I am 38 years old.  I will be 39 in about 6 weeks.  I am also currently 10 weeks pregnant with my 4th child.  My husband Matt and I have been married 18.5 years and we have 2 daughters and a son already.  Our kids are Jessie - 16, Emily - 12 and David - 8.  By the time we get to my due date, all of us will have seen a birthday.  It will be interesting next school year to have a senior in high school and a newborn.  I am an educational assistant at the charter school a mile down the road from my house where my younger two children are students.  I have told my coworkers and boss already because it is hard to hide the nausea and dizziness that have been coming and going with this pregnancy and besides, my coworkers are some of my closest friends.  I had my first midwife appointment this week.  This is the first time I have gone with a midwife.  I was very happy with my first visit.  I am attempting my third VBAC after a c-section delivery for breech presentation with my first.  Because of that, she suggested a dating ultrasound to try to be more certain of my due date.  I had that done on Thursday.  It is always such a relief to see that first picture of the baby and to hear/see a heartbeat.  The tech told me everything is measuring right on for my dates and the heart rate was 174.   I have been more anxious about this pregnancy than I have for any of the others so seeing that sweet little flutter was a huge relief.

This has gotten quite long so thanks for reading.

As for the QOTW, I am still too new to this to need a baby overload timeout.  I have a lot to think about and organize but I am at the superexcited stage still especially since it has been 8 years since my last pregnancy.

Welcome Cali! Congratulations on your pregnancy and welcome to the board! My husband and I have also been married 18 years but we, um, took our sweet time having children. I am also seeing a midwife after switching from an OB around Christmas and am very happy with how I am being treated. Congratulations on your multiple VBACs, and hopefully this LO will be a VBAC as well!
