I feel like I should invest in something like the UPPA baby vista, britax B ready, or the city select where I always have the option of using it as a single stroller, because once DS is big enough, we might not need the extra seat, and we can just use the ride along (board thingy that he will stand on). However, I pushed the city select around as a double and didn't like it at all. It felt way too long.
I like the idea of a side by side, but feel like I will only have the 2 in strollers for a limited amount of time, it might be a waste of money.
If you have children 2 years apart, what stroller did you go with, and were you happy with your selection?
TIA!
Re: rec your stroller for babies 2 years apart
I did a lot of research on double strollers.
If you can afford it, I would get the City Select--it's an awesome stroller and as close to perfect as you can get for a double, IMO.
That was too steep of a price for me though. I found a new Zooper Tango on Ebay for less than $300. That was the next runner up for me. I haven't used it, but I've tested it with the bucket seat and DD in it and it is really nice. It is heavy and big when folded though. I don't have a problem with that, but that's me.
ETA: Oh, and tied with the Zooper Tango was a Britax B-Agile Double. I really liked that one too but since I found a good price on the Zooper I went for it.
ETAx2: My priorities when looking were price and a really big and easily accessible basket underneath. Also that it needed to fit my Graco bucket seat. I also wanted either a parent tray or something for me--the Zooper didn't have a tray, but it has 2 large zipper pouches on the back of the canopies and an attachable cup holder. Size and weight didn't matter to me bc I have a large SUV and I'm strong. It also is only 30" wide so it will fit through a standard doorway. The City Select is only like 4" more narrow than the Zooper, so the tandem vs. side-by-side wasn't too big of a deal for me.
My kids are 22 mo apart. DS1 rarely rides in a stroller so we usually use our single. He loves to push our stroller that keeps him contained near me. I was planning on buying a universal board type attachment from Amazon but haven't had the need so far.
For our double, I was only interested in side by side because I knew we would be needing it for places like the zoo, museums, all day type outings that DS1 would get tired. I wanted both kids to have a good view, no fighting about who sat in front/back, and both seats to recline fully for naps. I bought the Maclaren Techno and it has been great.
Here are the boys in it. DS1 just turned 2 and DS2 was 2mo. He is in the JJ Cole body support but doesn't need it. DS1 is really tall for 2 and you can see he still has plenty of head room. Both kids like riding in it.
I don't like the City Select as a double because it's awkward to push as well. I almost bought it and was so glad I went to try it out first.
I would look into the B-Ready. The push is much much better and its a lot more maneuverable and like you said, you aren't stuck with a double if you oldest doesn't want to ride.
I would skip the Vista as a double, the second seat is small and it doesn't recline.
I would do the B-Ready and see how you like it. If you decide you need a side by side, you could look into something used or you could even try to find the B-Ready used.
FYI - I am getting the Bumbleride Indie Twin and maybe also the B-Ready but mine are pretty close together so I feel like a side by side is right for us.
We have the Britax B-Ready -- it was between that and the City Select, but the B-Ready won out because I got the second seat free during their "Free Ride Event" (happens once or twice a year now I think).
It works well for us now -- we have our 8 month old on the bottom seat, toddler on the top. I'm a little worried about how it will be when they're both a bit older... when the toddler is on the bottom seat, all he wants to do is kick the seat above him... I wonder if that's just the flaw in all in-line doubles though?
I really miss our City Mini single... I kinda wish we had gone with the City Mini double instead.
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.
