Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Earring backs?

Not looking for a debate here, DD's ears are already pierced and we love them.

Then only problem is that she defies all earring backs. We've tried the safety backs from Piercing Pagoda and went back for replacements a few times. Even though they're supposed to be baby proof, they don't stay on for her. I've tried the kind the bullet style and I liked those because I could check and see how far they were actually on, but now they seem to be wearing down a bit and are getting loose. She's gotten one ear's back off twice in the last week.

Any recommendations for babies/toddlers? Smaller would be better because I don't want any that are a choke hazard.

They don't stay on because earrings aren't made for babies.

    Sorry....

Great - then don't pierce your kid's ears.

    Anyone actually have a recommendation?

  • We use little huggie hoops, that I ordered from Amazon. They're amazing, because they snap closed, I'll find you the link if you want to check them out.

Now other than that, have you ever tried those plastic safety backs? I *think* they might be a tiny bit tighter. I've never used them on LO, but I've used them on myself many times, because I have a habit of losing my backs constantly.

Sorry but this is a really stupid response. You don't have to pierce Hadley's ears, but you don't have to make smart ass comments just because YOU don't like it.

There ARE earrings made especially for kids/toddlers ears.

  • Thanks, I haven't tried the screw- on kind. I'll keep them in mind when it's time to buy another pair of earrings. I love the little hoops, I just assumed she was too little for them in case the snagged on something or if she pulled on them... but maybe not?

The hoops are pretty sturdy. Mine pulls on them a lot (she's obsessed with her ears lately), they never come loose or get snagged on anything. They're so tiny, they just cuff right around their earlobes, so there isn't any room to get anything caught in there, you know?

  • Just FYI, you can get any earrings converted to screw backs.  It shouldn't be too expensive, when I use to work in a jewelry store I think it was around $20.  Anyhow, the backs push on and screw off, so they're easy to put on but hard to get off.

  • Amazing that you even had to preface with asking for no comments, & yet still you got one.  The internet is unbelievable with the amount of unsolicited opinions heaven forbid you offend anyone.  I'm writing this as someone who's going to wait awhile but just wanted to acknowledge that you didn't need to hear that crap from anyone.  At least you got a good answer from someone else.  Ack, this is my pet peeve!
  • We had problems with all DDs backs coming off too. Even the screw on. The only ones that stay and we've had no issues with are the ones that we pierced them with. Right now those just stay in til she's a bit older. I have always had issues loosing backs myself so I have "protektor" backs. They have a pinch clasp to get them on or off. I didn't pay much for them but have had a super hard time finding them since. The store I got them from went out of business shortly after I got them.

My mom bought DD a new pair of diamond ones and said the backs are super tight and shouldn't be an issue at KMart, Disney princess brand, but I haven't tried them yet.

  • I agree screw backs are great. Also this may sound very strange but my grandma did it to my mom and ant. And my mom did it to me. I thought it was nuts but until I tried it, I didn't believe it worked. Try putting a small amount of clear nail polish on the back of the earring. It helps "seal" the back to the stick so it won't slip off easily for a baby/toddler. But an adult can remove it with no problem. It's odd I know but it works.
