PTing question - what do I do?

So C's been really, really into the potty for about a week.  He poops or pees pretty much every time I put him there and tells us he needs to go maybe 25-50% of the time.  We give M&Ms too (1 for pee, 2 for poop).  I was using the minis but one day he randomly pooped in there and I was so proud of him that I have him the regular size ones, whoops!  So, here's my problem.  He poops (usually just one little piece) and then gets either super excited or randomly really emotional that he did it.  Either way, he's off the potty and I know he needs to go more. I can't force him to stay there, but sure enough a few minutes later he either wants to go again (even more candy) or goes in the diaper/pull up.  Any thoughts on how to keep him there or will this pass quickly?  Thanks!

maybe a book or a little timer would help?  i know when i am in the bathroom with her she is distracted and wont poop, but tne second i give her some privacy (i still peek through the door) she concentrates and does her business.

A timer might work and I hadn't even thought about giving him some privacy!  Now it sounds dumb that I say that, but I seriously hadn't considered it.  Thanks, I'll give that a shot!
