PT at DC, a ?

For those who have worked on PT at DC, what changes did you make in your LO's bag and when? He'll be in pullups for awhile I assume but then we'll eventually transition to underwear. How many changes of underwear (and I'm assuming pants/shorts) do you send?

Also, has anyone else had any issues with their LO refusing pullups and wanting to stay in a diaper?

Any other recommendations?

Re: PT at DC, a ?

  • I never used pullups as a training tool. Once I thought my kids were ready after training at home for a time, I sent them to daycare in underwear with 3 changes of clothes.

Inside of 2 weeks they were both pretty much bombproof.  Odd accident here and there but nothing to get worked up over.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • I never used Pullups, we trained right to underwear.  I send 2 pairs of underwear and an extra pair of pants.  I also send diapers, my sitter prefers to have her nap in a diaper, even though she very rarely has an accident when she sleeps.  I use an in home daycare, so she will wash DD's clothes if she has an accident.

  • I would ask the daycare what their policy is, our's likes to try pullups first. However, my son used them just like diapers and didn't get consistent at daycare until all he had was underwear.

Good luck, I also see you are going to be an August 2013 mom too!

  • Dd is pretty much trained at home, but 2 weeks into daycare and having accidents cause she doesn't tell them. I send 3 changes of clothes and spare shoes each day
  • Like PP, we never used pull-ups and went straight to underwear. I would send 3-5 pairs and multiple change of clothes including socks.

  • We never used pull-ups while potty training. Once we started we went directly to undies. I sent probably 5 pairs of undies at first and a couple of changes of clothes. My daughter wears dresses a lot and sometimes we wouldn't need to change the dress. She never had that many accidents in a day, though. I think the most she ever had was 2.

  • We also never used pull-ups.  For DC, we sent in I think maybe 5 pairs of training pants and 3-5 changes of clothes, including socks like a pp said.  One thing to maybe consider is sending another pair of shoes.  If they have a big pee, sometimes it will get in their shoes.

We told DD that when she could go a whole week at DC without an accident, we'd go buy her big girl underwear and she could pick them out.  It was a real motivation for her, especially since we had looked at them every time we went shopping and she knew which ones she wanted.

DC put her in a diaper for naptime for about 2 weeks, until I told them to stop and see how she did.  She never wore a diaper at nap at home, and was night potty-trained about 4 weeks after we started seeing consistent results with daytime training.

All in all, it was exactly 45 days from the time we started PTing until she was 100% completely PTed (including naps and night).

  • My DC won't allow regular undies until she is fully PT at home, it's a bummer cause of course she regressed and we are re-training now.  So we still do pull-ups and she's gradually starting to hold it more.

This is exactly our plan, and what DC recommends.

We plan to start next week, officially, so hopefully that works out.

  • We had DD1 in pull ups because she is a big kid, and the bigger diapers didn't really fit her as well. In any event, DC insisted on having her in pull ups for nap time, which I gave them a week, and of course she didn't have any accidents, so those came home. I sent her with 2 of everything, panties, pants, socks, except I never send shoes (had a parent swear DD's shoes were her kid's and so I am sketchy about shoes now), although I suppose an extra pair of shoes would be smart. The only accident she has had in about a month was when she was on the playground and asked the teacher to go pee, and the teacher said wait a minute. Well, she couldn't wait, and peed her pants instead. Apparently that is when a lot of accidents happen because the kids forget to say something until it is too late.
