We are Team Green and our boy name has been set for quite awhile but we're just not getting anywhere with our girl name. We have a top 3 but neither of us can decide how to choose one. Every few days our number one changes to one of the other three. We also have some other names we like and we have even considered again but I really think we have a definite top 3. I know we can wait to decide once we're at the hospital (if we even have a girl) but that makes me so nervous. I'd rather have things decided before birth. Plus we still have to pick middle names which I've kind of put on the back burner until we figure out a girl first name.
So I was wondering if any of you that have been in this position before could share how you finally narrowed it down? If you were stuck between a few names how did you decide? For those of you that waited until birth, did you feel rushed and under a lot of pressure or was it easy to pick once you saw them? I'm tired of stressing over this and just need some advice!
Re: How did you narrow down to one final name?
Well, we had our list narrowed down to three for DS. We threw the names around for a couple of weeks to see which one sounded right for us.
Out of the list one of the names was rather long so I cut it because I didn't want to cause trouble when he was learning to spell his name.
The other name was nice and easy to spell but the more I thought about it the more I realized it didn't age well.
Then we were left with one. I think we made our final decision around 26 weeks.
Good Luck!
You have some time left, so you might an experiment. For a whole week, call the baby exclusively by name #1. The next week, do name #2. Then #3. Sometimes, one will just stick.
You can also try using each of the names in low-risk situations ? give the name to a barista when you get a drink or introduce the baby by that name to nosy strangers at the grocery store, etc. just to try them out in the real world.

Thanks these are great ideas!
We were stuck between 2 first names and several middle names. We went into the a/s thinking we were going to use one, but once we KNEW it was a girl, we got cold feet.
Basically it just came down to us talking them through for a week or so after the anatomy scan and realizing that DH had a strong emotional connection to the name Elinor (his grandmother) and my love of the name Nora (DD's nickname).
We were between Declan and Nicholas the day of my induction. Before we left for the hospital, we both said them with our last name a few times and decided on Nicholas. I actually let DH pick, because I was so undecided.
We knew our girl name was set from about 36 weeks, so we were opposite you!
Some people say it's easier once you meet the baby. I would personally disagree because my own DS didn't look like any kind of name when he was born. He was just my precious little baby I don't think either of us called him Nicholas for the first few weeks, he was just baby and other pet names. His looks have changed so much that he didn't really "look" like a name right away, to me. Of course, now he's 100% a Nicky, IMO.
Good luck!
OP, we were the opposite. Our girl name was set in stone since before we got married. We had a h*ll of a time thinking of a boy name. We didn't agree on anything - and the ones that we liked we were still 'meh' on.
One day I was watching a TV show and the main character's name was Henry. This was a name that neither DH nor I had brought up at all, and I just said, What do you think of Henry? Dh said, I actually like it a lot! And that was that. We feel as strongly about Henry as we do about our girl name that's been around for 3 years!
