Prevacid?

If your child takes prevacid, what form are you giving it. Compounded liquid? Solutab? How long did it take to work? Any side effects?

Re: Prevacid?

  • Compounded liquid and it took about a week to get effective. Before that, we tried Zantac and Prilosec. She's been on the Prevacid for about a month now and it's working great still.

    ETA: no side effects.

  • Solutab, since he was 1 month old. From 2 days old until

1 month he was on zantac but it stopped working. Pedi

increased prevacid (doubled dose) a couple weeks ago

since it's not having much of an effect (still isn't and we

need to go to a GI specialist Tuesday), but initially we saw

a change after a few days. He's almost 4 months

    ~16 weeks.

Are you getting it from a compounding pharmacy? I've avoided the compound because I've read that it loses effectiveness after two weeks and needs to be refilled at that point. Have you experienced this?

What dose are you on? We started 15 mg solutabs today and my son has been miserable and screaming all day, which is very unlike him. Did you have side effects?

LO is on 15 mg solutabs too. He takes a whole one, twice a day. Before he was taking half a tablet twice a day. I remember him being ok when he first started taking it (half tablet twice a day), but when the pedi changed it to a whole one twice a day, he had a few days of tough adjustment. The poor kiddo was vomiting, not just spitting up. I've never seen so much come out of a baby before. The nurse told me it was normal until his tummy got used to it, so after those first couple of days he was ok. He still fusses almost after every feeding until he pukes up enough and then is really happy. But like I said, we have to go see a specialist for him.

Yes, we get it at a compounding pharm. we'd gotten good at doing the liquid when she was on Zantac so didn't want to switch to the tablet. Haven't had major issues with it losing effectiveness, which is good since insurance won't cover it every two weeks. When we starting the Prevacid, we also started probiotics and I cut dairy so not sure if its the Prevacid or any of the other things or a combo that's helping her. But I don't want to stop any if it and mess her up again!
