FET questions

Hello Ladies,

I feel like I am becoming an expert at the whole IVF, egg retrieval process. But I know very little about the FET protocol.  I just had my egg retrieval last Thursday. We were happy to get 5 eggs. I'm participating in an egg vitrification study. So these eggs were frozen (and added to 2 previously frozen eggs).  My Doc was happy with the amount of eggs I have now - so we are ready for the next step which will be fertilization and transfer.  I guess it is not exactly a frozen transfer b/c I don't have frozen embryos, just frozen eggs.

I am assuming that I'll go through the same process as a FET. But they'll just thaw the eggs, fertilize and transfer on day 3 or 5... IF I have some healthy embryos!

All I heard from my nurse was to call on day one of my period.  So how long should I expect the process to take from cycle day 1 to transfer?  Any ideas from the experts in Bump land?

Re: FET questions

  • Hi! The plan and time schedule will depend on wether you do a "natural" or a medicated FET... I've only done natural FETs so I don't know anything about medicated ones.

  • I'm assuming they will prep you for a FET even if its just the eggs they have to thaw. My protocol starts on CD1 and includes estrogen patches up until a monitoring appt CD15. If that's all good, more patches, estrogen supps and PIO all start before FET somewhere between CD16 and 18.

I've seen a lot of different protocols for FET's on here. In any case, it doesn't seem to me, and I'm sure others will agree, to be nearly as invasive as a regular IVF cycle. Good luck with your cycle!!
