St Joseph Hospital in Nashua? New to area need hospital suggestions

Hi all! I am going to be moving to the Nashua area and just found out I am prego with #2! I am super excited but also nervous because I know nothing about the area or the hospitals.

I really want a natural birth and want to labor in a tub. I don't have to give birth in a tub, but as long as majority of the labor can be spent in the tub, I'll be okay with that.

I am considering St Joseph Hospital because they have labor tubs and I also love that Full Circle Midwifery Care would allow me to see a midwife but still deliver at a hospital.

Anyone deliver there? Good experience? Bad?

What about Elliot Hospital in Manchester? I know it's a little bit farther away from me but if the care is excellent and I am still able to use a labor tub there, then I may go with them. Do they have labor tubs?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

  • I don't know anything about St Joseph, but I strongly recommend the other hospital in Nashua- Southern NH Medical Center. I had my first there and am about to have my second there too. Go take a free tour of their Birth Center to get a feel for it! The rooms are really nice, and private, and they have labor tubs! If you're looking for a doctor too, I love mine at Womens Care of Nashua. The entire staff there is great. Good luck!

  • Hi!

I'm currently going with St Josephs.

I took a tour of St Joes and Southern NH Medical. I will say SNHMC is a lot more updated and very peaceful. Smaller Hospital too!  I definitely prefer SNHMC with their facility, but I am sticking to St Joes as I picked an OBGYN affiliated with St Joes.

I would say find an OBGYN you like, then go with the hospital affiliated that OB.

I did not look at Elliott, but I did hear good things about their facility. Probably the most recent. I would say it would be best to take a tour of all the hospitals, and then get an idea on an OB then choose from there.

For me, OBGYN was more important, then the hospital.

    Good Luck! :)

  • We had our childbirth class on 1/12 and we got to go on an abbreviated tour.  Our teacher said it would be the last tour until the flu restrictions are lifted.  She might not be able to go on a tour of SNHMC right now.
  • I had my son at st joes and will have this baby their as well, i had a very positive experience with all the staff there, and i like that they are a smaller hospital and their nurse patient ratio is smaller than most. I did not use the tub during labor but i know that they have one and it is a nice very private room, they have a bed in the room so you can go right from the tub to the bed when ready to push.I know they recently did some updates to some of their rooms. Hpe this helps :)
  • I work at SNHMC, and most of the babies in the Nashua area are born here (8 out of 10, I believe). The NICU is excellent.  My job requries me to go to the NICU sometimes, and the staff is so friendly and professional.  Only in extreme cases do babies have to be sent to a Boston hospital.  The "Birth Place" is beautiful.  They redesigned it a couple years back and the rooms are just so warm and inviting, very clean too.  I know they have a jacuzzi tub in the rooms but I have no idea if you can birth in them.

I am having my first child at the Elliot Hospital based on the location to my house and my OB.  Elliot Hospital does include tub births, but my OB does not perform them.  To my knowledge they have the best NICU.  My sister worked there for years and they see some pretty extreme cases.  They are able to keep babies born more premature then other area hospitals.  Their specialists are the best.

I don't know a lot about St.Joes other then what I hear patients say.  But the majority of patients that I see at SNHMC that have been to St.Joes prefer SNHMC overwhelmingly.  Hope this helped!  If anything else, you should get a tour of each hospital and then decide. You don't want to make the mistake of going to a hospital just because your OB is affiliated with them.
