It's my grandmother's name and she goes by Ber- niss  

which I thought was the wrong pronunciation, I think there is a story behind it. But, if I use this name as a middle name I like the proper pronunciation, Ber- niece, soooooo much better.

There is a french actress named this, but she might use a slightly different spelling. I have heard her name pronounced Ber ah niece, which I kind of like. It wouldnt work in the states though.
