Toddler changing mind?

My two year old has started doing this thing where she changes her mind every two seconds carry me! Don't carry me! Carry me! Don't carry me!. It usually ends in me picking one and her melting down. Any strategies for addressing this? Obviously rational conversation does not work. TIA!

  • If DS is given a choice, then he is made to stick with it. I don't know if its the right thing to do but at least he learns what to expect from me. For example, he requested chicken soup for dinner. Once it was in the bowl he wouldn't eat. Well, sorry kid, you wanted soup, you are eating soup or nothing. Eventually, he told us that he doesn't like his food mixed in together, so we seperated the veggies, noodles, and meat and he scarfed it down.

If you figure something out that doesn't result in a meltdown, let me know.nbsp; I'm hoping this is yet one more thing they'll hopefully grow out of soon.

This. I was thinking of posting something similar. I think they just like to say "no." I ignore it and pray it goes away. I hope there are better solutions.

  • To me 1.5 - 2.5 is the hardest age.  There is really no reasoning with them, so you either have to give in or just let them melt down.  By 2.5/3 yrs, you can have a convo with them and they can begin to reason with you a bit, but for now there is not much, IMHO, you can do.

Whether I let DD cry to stand my ground all depends on the situation (where we are, how tired she is, if I have the strength to holdout, etc). I am looking forward to 6 months from now when I can use bribes, theats a d dirty looks like I do with my DS and SS :-)

  • DS has started doing this for everything! The meltdowns are very new to us, he just started that in the past week or so. I'm expecting it to get worse though, as right now we are experiencing about 1 short meltdown with fake crying per day. I am glad to hear he might be over this phase relatively soon.
