Baby Showers

Shower location question

I am a FTM and this is my very first post on this site :)

Ok so my mother is hosting my shower she is not the party planning type she would not even know where to begin bless her heart she doesnt even know how to use a computer so I agreed to help plan with her but again she is hosting and thankfully paying the bill, lol. both DH and I have families that live out of state so there was no one else here to help her again the only reason why I stepped in to help I can see her overwhelmingness all over her face.

Ok now we are only having maybe about 25-30 folks we are going to invite. now Mom is not rich and it is better for her finacially to cook herself. BUT her home is extreamly small and not everyone will fit. We would hate to leave people out as everyone is so excited. Mom asked if she could host in my home.

So there is my question would it be odd/tacky to have my mother host my shower in my home???

We have looked into halls and even brunch or lunch time resturants, but mom just cant do it. I feel sad this might be our only option not that I mind just dont want to give people the wrong idea.

Re: Shower location question

  • Agree with PPs that it's fine as long as it's clear your mom is the host.  I've been to many showers in the mom to be's house and never gave it a second thought.

  • Ditto PPs - it's totally fine for someone else to host your shower at your house. My friends did this for me last year, and it was great. My only advice is to make yourself scarce when they start setting up - it's fun to see how they've decorated and set everything up.

Yep...this.  I also second (or third) the pp who said to put a start and an end time (1-4 for instance).  Also, to keep expenses down I would make sure you have an RSVP by date.  That way your mom can call anyone who does not RSVP by that date, to make sure they are coming or not.  No sense paying for food for people who are not going to attend.

This. Or depending on your location or the time of year you could try a park with your house being listed at a rain location? My sister was thinking this for my shower and it seems like a great idea. Pavilions/shelters or either usually free or a very cheap ($5-20) rental fee.

  • I think it's totally fine/ appropriate to host at the mom's house.  I've done two baby showers for friends now and both were at their house, it was actually sort of cute for them to be able to show the family and friends the nursery progress.
