Babies: 9 - 12 Months

one nap?

DS didn't drop to one nap until 13-14 months.

DD (9.5 months for those on TB mobile who can't see tickers) has been a terrible napper from the beginning.  Recently, she has had a few days where she takes one super long nap, but that's it for the day.  It's great that I have such a long stretch of time to get stuff done instead of the 20-30 minute catnaps, but I wonder if it's detrimental to her somehow to already be down to one nap.

Re: one nap?

  • Nope, both of my kids transitioned to one nap early. As long as they are getting their sleep there's nothing wrong with it.  DS takes one nap most days but occasionally takes a 2nd short nap.  He sleeps all night either way.

  • 12-13 months was the magic number for us. They started doing it at daycare and she adjusted within 2 weeks or so. Before she went to 1 nap, I could put her down after being awake for 2 hours and she would usually pass out. She would only have trouble if she was overtired.

  • DD transitioned to one nap about three weeks ago, just a few days after she turned 10 months.

I'd love to get an idea of what your routine looked like before and how it is now if ya don't mind? :)

  • DS's schedule isn't consistent enough yet, but he has several days now/week that only include one nap. Sometimes on those days though, he'll go to bed at 6/6:30 instead of 7/7:30, but we still get him up at the same time the next day if it's a work day (5:45). Sometimes life is just too exciting to take a nap. There are far too many awesome toys to play with.

  • My son is making that transition now, too (at around 11 months).

  • daycare made us transition DS1 to one nap around 13 months.  I don't think he was ready and could've gone a few more months with two naps.  DS2 has been down to one nap since about 7 months.  If I tried to get him to take two naps the first one would always be too short and he would be cranky and he wouldn't sleep again until late afternoon... he functioned much better on just the one.
