We use the Exergen temporal as well. We do need to hold her head still, but it's quick and she doesn't mind.
I have this one, I also have an almost 3-year old and I orgionally bought it for her. It is spot on. When he has a fever higher than a 100 I aways check with a rectal and it has always read right around the same. The temporal is nice when you want to check and not disturb them.
We have the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer and are pretty happy with it. It's fast and consistent and easy to use. Pro tip: no matter how bleary eyed and exhausted you are at 3 AM, take the cap OFF the thermometer before attempting to take baby's temperature. Yeah. DH learned that one the hard way.
Re: Recommend your thermometer
We still use butt one but we have Exergen temporal one that works good if we can get her to stay still but works great for 7 year old.
