WWYD? FTM overanalyzing question inside

WWYD?

Lately I've been pumping way more than what we are sending LO to daycare. Usually I'll pump about 5 oz at a time, we send him w/ 3 oz bottles. He isn't fussing and we always get a bottle back at the end of the day (send him w/ 3, he eats 2 and I bf at lunch).

My H thinks we should bump him up oz wise, but I don't think he needs it yet. I feel like we should wait until he needs another bottle in the day to keep him satisfied.

He's never in his life refused to eat and will eat whatever we give him (my H once gave him a 5 oz bottle :-O). But does he need it? He's gaining well and isn't fussy so I say wait. Then again the last thing I want to do is starve him.

E is 3 months today for those that can't see the siggy.

And thanks for listening to my rambling!

  • FWIW, N gets 3 bottles of 4 oz at daycare and she is 13w old.

  • At the 2mo appointment, based on his weight then (almost 12lbs), my pediatrician recommended 6oz every 4-6 hours.  I was only having my mom give him 2.5oz and he was wanting it every 2 hours so I was a bit shocked at 6oz.  The pediatrician said you can up it if he is consistently finishing the bottle.  But at that time LO would only take 3.5oz at a time.  It's a month later now so I will be upping it to 4oz to see how he does.

I don't think it needs to be upped since he is also gaining weight well, but he's in daycare now.  If I can keep him fuller for longer at daycare, I think that would be better!

  • I think you're doing fine, especially since you BF at lunch, which LO probably prefers.

I send three 4 oz bottles with my LO plus a 2.5 oz "snack". Some days she has finished them all off, other days she will leave an ounce in a couple bottles, or not need the snack. She's 12 lbs, 11 oz and 14 weeks. She is in daycare 8-9 hours.

  • I wouldn't send more. Stash it for later. My ability to pump dropped off at 6 months last time and I supplemented starting at 8 so I'm stashing in case that happens again. Not that it happens to everyone but I've heard of others not responding as well to the pump with time also.

  • If you're getting a bottle back at the end if the day I don't think Lo is still hungry so you don't need to up the amount. I would ask daycare if he seems hungry.

I work 12hrs and I feed Lo right before leaving for work then leave 4 4oz bottles and sometimes a 3oz bottle if I had some extra from the day before. He usually drinks the 4bottles. Occasionally he will leave an oz here or there or only drink 3 bottles.

  • My dd is almost 3 months she gets 3 oz bottles every 2 to 4 hours. Depending on how long she sleeps. Somedays a bottle comes home some days she takes all 4. She seems satisfied after so we haven't bumped up yet. When she bfs she still goes about every 2 hours unless she falls asleep. I feel like if she is waiting the same amount of time between a bottle and bfing them she must be ok

  • Thanks for all the suggestions! I think I'm just going to wait until we don't get bottles back on a regular basis. Like a few of you said, if he isn't acting extra hungry and is gaining weight well, I'm going to try not to worry about it.

Thanks for indulging my over analyzing.
