Trouble TTC

Morphology

I'm new here and I'm not sure if I am posting in the right heading, but here it goes, this is my story....

My DH and I both turn 30 next week I realize this is a minor detail, I guess it just reminds me of where I thought we would be in this journey by now

We have been TTC for a year, because my husband is on medication for a type of genetic arthritis we had him do a SA. My obgyn said his count and motility were fine but that his morphology was low and she felt comfortable sending us to a FS.

We both had a bunch of tests all mine came back finetubes, etc, I also ovulate monthly DH SA came back with 1 morphologyI cant remember what method they used but they said over 4 is normal again motility and count were normal. So FS suggests straight to IVF. UGH, from hopeful to not in such a quick breath, I guess I just feel like can that really be the only option? I bought Fertility blend for DH to try, I think we would give it at least until summer before we made any big decisions. IVF is just such an expensive option.
Anyway, any success stories or advice would be so welcomed. thank you!

  • Welcome!  I'm really sorry you have to be here....my DH has low morph as well (2% using same scale as yours).  Did they say anything about waiting a few months and doing a repeat?  Maybe your doc has thoughts (are you seeing an RE or an OB/GYN who just specializes in fertility? - I definitely suggest and RE if not) on why straight to IVF, but both our RE and the urologist we saw who specializes in MFI said they weren't overly concern since other numbers were alright.  They said it will decrease our chances, but they have seen worse where people got pregnant through IUI.  As our RE said, even with a low morph, you have to think of the thousands of sperm that are there, so it is possible.  If you aren't comfortable going straight to IVF, talk to your doc.

  • Morphology is the only number that has never changed for us from SA to SA even with the vitamins helping his other numbers. We are 2% and we tried 3 IUIs with no success and now we are on to ivf. I think with 1% I would go straight to ivf.

Definitely have a repeat SA though.

  • Thanks for the responses ladies, I will def request another SA after DH's been on the vitamins a bit, like I said his count and motility were fine so at least we have that working with us.  I also want to have DH talk to his rheumatologist and see if there is an option for different medicine there, although he truly needs some form of medicine for his arthritis and I would never ask him to just go without-def too painful, but perhaps there is something different.  Of course I have no idea if that is causing the morphology issue or not-just something to explore?  I hate morphology, it's stupid and annoying.  :) thanks for listening

  • After 3 months, we repeated DH's SA, morph was 1% for us as well...but because the other numbers looked OK, they suggested a couple IUIs.  Our RE also sent DH's sample for DNA fragmentation, just in case that was causing the morph issue, but that came back fine...so here we are giving IUI a try for a little while.  Good luck!
