Build a Bear

I'm thinking of taking DS to build a bear this weekend and letting him get a new stuffed animal.  We are having a hard time getting him to sleep in his own bed and I thought I'd try letting him pick out something new to sleep with at night. I also thought letting him help "build" it would make it more special to him. Can anyone give me an estimate as to how expensive it is to build a bear at the store?

 TIA

Re: Build a Bear

  • Depends on the accessories you want. I think they start out at like $20 or some shiit.

  • MIL is a build a bear manager. You can get some for about $12 then some are around $16-18 it just depends on the bear you choose.

  • Their website has prcing information so you can estimate. I think the basic animals start at $10 and go up to the mid $20s. If you want to add a sound button, those start around $5. Then you have accessories and outfits. I would plan on $30-$50. A $15 bear + $15 superhero costume. It adds up fast. You can certainly get out for cheaper if you stick to a plain bear with no add-ons, but that's not easy;)

  • Thanks everyone!  I just started building one online to get a rough estimate.  Do ya'll think it would work to help him sleep in his own bed?  He used to have no problem, but since the hospital stay a few weeks ago he always ends up in our bed. He has a blanket he sleeps with every night, I was just hoping maybe something to cuddle with would make him feel safer.

I'm actually taking DD1 there tomorrow for her birthday.  A friend of mine told me to expect to spend around $50-$60.  Also, if you go like their Facebook page and write on their wall that you would like a coupon and leave your email address, they will email you a $5 off coupon.  I did it yesterday and they sent it that afternoon.

That's awesome!  I will do that right now!

     Thanks!

It depends if you're getting outfits and add-ons. We had DS make one when he was little, and then he made one for DD when she was a baby. Each time it was 20ish dollars bc we're cheap and he didn't care about the outfits anyhow.

This. We let DD pick out the rainbow bear. It was $21 at checkout. DD's too young to do anything besides get pissed that the clothes came off or went on the bear in the first place, so we skipped that.

She named her rainbow bear Moo-moo.

Thanks ladies!  I was planning on going the cheap route as well.  He isn't all that interested in accessories, I just thought maybe a "special" bear would help him sleep better.

  • For a kid this young, I'd go with just the basics, so you could do it for under $30.  The extras add up fast.

  • I took DS there once after we had to put our family dog down - I let DS tears convince me to go all out....to the tune of $80.

DH has taken SD there several times and never leaves without spending $50.
