P90X anyone?

I borrowed P90X from a friend several months ago, and did use it some, but not consistently until recently. I still have yet to actually do all the cd's though. Anyone else doing it, or thinking of it?

Re: P90X anyone?

  • P90X is a high intensity program.  Have you been working out consistently before and during your pregnancy?  If not, I would definitely modify the workouts and take it easy, especially if you are farther along.  It's fine to do, just be careful!

Wish I was...still TTC #1.  See my siggy for details.  As soon as I hit the 2ww, I ease up on the workouts.  After I got KU the first time, I noticed I would get light-headed pretty quickly, so I had to pull back (I was not doing P90X then, just regular weight-lifting).  My OB recommended to not let my heart rate go above 140.  Then again, I know people who run long distances and/or teach aerobics during pregnancy.  Very confusing to know what is acceptable.  With two losses, I wouldn't be surprised if my OB tells me to take it easy when we do get pg again.

  • I've doe the full 90 days, I did it just before my wedding and I liked it. I've since done Chalene Extreme and Insanity and I prefer these two vs P90x though I do some of the P90 workouts once in a while.

doing the full program definitely got me stronger and I could do pull ups for real afterwards which was cool. But it didn't help much for my cardio conditioning. CE was a more enjoyable weights based workout for me but ultimately Insanity was the one that got me from 23% bf to 14% after two full rounds of it. I'm still doing some Insanity workouts now I am just modifying them a little so it's less jarring.

if you have any questions you can pm me too :) I love talking about these workouts because I've really seen good results with them.

  • I'm very sorry for your losses.  I took it easy during my (many) 2ww's while TTC and going through IF.  We lost our first baby (almost 5 yrs. ago) and then lost our first son's twin. FWIW, I parked myself on the couch until the end of first trimester w/ all three pregnancies and I don't regret it.  I walked throughout the remainder of both pregnancies almost daily but ended up on modified bedrest w/ DS2 for 10 weeks as I had pProm w/ DS1 at 33 weeks.  I wish you the best of luck and hang in there : )

  • My husband is doing P90X - legs and back as I type this :)

I haven't tried it since being pregnant, but I will definately be jumping on this once LO is here.

I would be afraid IMO to do it while pregnant, I just stick to doing my 20 minutes of cardio on the eliptical every night. I feel like P90x is to intense of a workout while pregnant, at least for me. But I have never been in GREAT shape to begin with. It might be different for those of you who are already in good shape.

I have recently heard about insanity...good to hear your take.  I have been just kinda handpicking the different discs in P90X, but still haven't tried any of the cardio or kenpo stuff.  For cardio, I have really taken to brisk walking - around 4 miles 4-5 times a week.  It is the only cardio I stick too - I live in FL so I really enjoy being able to get outside year-round, and I don't have a gym membership.  But...I am wondering what I supposed to be doing for the true 90-day workout of P90x.  Somehow I missed the instructions of when/how to structure the discs across 90 days...maybe I'll pm you on that one.  Thanks for your perspective!

Thank you and same to you about your losses.  I guess I should enjoy the workouts now, while I can without reservation!  My friend had an EM C-section of her DD at 32 weeks a couple months ago.  DD spent 4 weeks in the NICU - crazy stuff, but she is up to 8lbs now and doing well.  My friend was also on bedrest for the latter part of her pg before she delivered.  Appreciate your feedback!

I'm so sorry for your losses.  I am new to the boards and I didn't think to read your bio first. :-(

I would say do any workout you like for now.  There is a schedule for P90X, as well as the other workouts mentioned.  I have done ChaLEAN Extreme and it was a great workout.  I loved the lifting!  I would definitely take it easy once you do get pregnant though.  I was on restriction with my first 2 pregnancies due to different complications, so I couldn't lift anything, even my son!  Now I am on #3, and on no restrictions.  I really believe that getting in shape before this pregnancy has made a huge difference.  Good luck, and let me know if I can help in any way!

Lol!!!!!! Oh Tony haha and don't forget Pam the Blam!

All the chit chatting Tony does definitely started to get on my nerves! I did P90X in the past and felt much stronger. Now that I'm pg I don't really do anything too intense. Mainly walking on the TM and sometimes jogging. I wish I was jogging more but I've been getting short of breath.

OP if you are in decent shape you can totally do P90X with some modifications. You could probably keep doing the weight lifting (keeping it light) and a lot of the leg workouts while pg, but skip the plyo and cardio days! All that jumping plus worsening pregnancy balance and thrown off center of gravity would not be a good combination!

Hmmm...somehow I have missed Pam the Blam???  Maybe the cardio or Plyo cds? There are a couple I still have not done...

Yes, I learned quickly to only use the music and cues, he is too chatty.

Thanks for the advice!  Pretty fit now, so good to know I may be able to continue.  With 2 losses in the past though, I will def be consulting OB on it first, once I get KU again.  Ab Ripper X Day today!!!!

  • I am at 5 weeks, just found out pregnant 1/23/13. Prior to this I was doing P90X (not the actually step-by-step plan, as before), more just using the workouts: Kenpo, yoga, ab ripper, and the strength training (did follow P90X on strength training plan).  I plan to continue doing what I have been already, with modifications.  I bought a yoga block, and gave up ab ripper for just doing stability ball moves.  I have read that if you can continue your normal activity, just to listen to your body as it will tell you when you've pushed too far.  I also know you are not suppose to do any exercises on your back after the first trimester.  I would ask your doctor and get his/her blessing as well.
