Trouble TTC

Intro and my 1 year mark

I had posted this as a reintro on TTGP and I was kindly directed here since, as much as I hate to admit it to myself, I am starting my journey through IF. Any and all advice is welcome. I'm informed, I do my research, but I'm also pretty effing scared. And I have no problem admitting that. Passing that 1 year mark was much more emotionally draining than I ever expected it to be.

My story: DH and I had both been married previously in our early 20's, but never had children. We met, fell in love, moved from NJ to TX leaving behind everything we knew, got married, and started TTC our first. He's 34 and I'm 31.

I was diagnosed with Hashimotos over 10 years ago, and have always had my hypothyroidism well managed. I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years later. About 9 months ago I was also diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia, but hadn't yet sought treatment. I was seeing an RE who wanted to jump right to unmonitored Clomid, so I was on the hunt for a new doctor.

Fast forward to this month... My cycles had been getting increasingly longer throughout the year and after two 90day cycles, I finally put my stubbornness aside and sought help from a new RE. Much to my surprise, I most likely do not have PCOS and my prolactin level isn't even near high enough to be cause for concern. That is the good news.

The bad news is that I had no idea that autoimmune diseases like Hashimotos can cause POF ...premature ovarian failure. Something that I never dreamed I'd hear, but I'm staying positive and hoping that its just a case of some wonky hormones that can be straightened out through medication.

I'm on my first cycle of Provera and am awaiting the results of lots of bloodwork and ultrasounds. My HSG is scheduled for next month. I'm trying not to be a nervous wreck about anything, but it's hard to find women to talk to about it. Apparently my friends can all get pregnant just from looking at their husbands the right way, and my mother is flat out in denial that anything is wrong.

Sorry for the length of that post... I guess I needed to get it off my chest.

  • Welcome to TTTC although I'm sorry you have to be here.  You'll find the ladies here are really knowledgeable.

The HSG can be painful for some and a breeze for others. My experience was more discomfort than pain - if you've had a biopsy then very similar to that and it was over in 15 minutes. Take tylenol before and after helped. GL

That's what my RE said as well. Of course, I've heard horror stories too, so I'm assuming its all dependent on the person getting it, and the person doing it. I'm hoping for just discomfort!

  • Welcome... sorry you have to be here. Infertility issues are hard to talk to others about, and no one understands the relationship between a woman and her fertility as intimately than those who struggle with it. But we're ALL in that boat here so there's plenty of understanding (and mild snark for those who need it), the ladies here are sisters who share your heartache and triumphs. I hope you find a plan that works for you and that your stay here is short and successful. Best of luck!

  • Welcome and I hope you get some answers and good test results. I hope your stay is short and sweet.

Like you, DH and I were both previously married to the wrong people. We had grown up about a mile apart and knew a million of the same people, but we did not connect until we were both divorced and pretty much settled on the fact that we would never find someone. Every day, I thank God for bringing us together and for letting me experience such an awesome love and intimacy with someone so wonderful. I'm glad you and your DH get the same thing.
