Re: are your lil ones on the move yet?

  • My DD is less interested in crawling, rolls when placed on her tummy, and is beginning to pull up to stand.  Her younger cousin, on the other hand, seems like she is getting ready to run marathons.  Our pediatrician just encouraged more tummy time.

  • I think you posted on the wrong board...

ETA: mistook your ticker for the age of your current LO.  Nevermind.

My LO crawls everywhere and pulls himself up, but can only walk along a couch.  But he was always a big fan of tummy time, so I think he got stronger a little faster.

  • my dd is the same way...HATES tummy time and did not roll for a while and isn't even close to crawling.  i brought this up to the pedi who was mildly concerned so we saw a physical therapist for it.  she simply recommended more tummy time by motivating her more (placing highly motivating toys to the side so she'd roll) or getting her on her side so she could roll the rest of the way herself.  if you are concerned, bring it up to your pedi and see what he/she says.  our dd sits wonderfully and has been for a while so both the pedi and the pt think she may skip crawling altogether and go straight to pulling up and walking.

    good luck to you!

  • DD started trying to crawl at 6mo.  She was pulling up to stand, cruising the furniture and walking with us holding her hands at 7mo.  She didn't start crawling until 8.5mo and took her first steps at 11.5mo.

  • DS has been crawling since a little before 6 months. He learned to pull himself up at 7 1/2 months and now at 9 months he is cruising along ALL the furniture and can now sit down without falling.

He also got a ride on or walk with motorcycle that he can now get on and off of. I think he's going to start walking anytime! Or at least trying (:

  • Our daughter didn't start crawling until 10 months. She made absolutely no moves to even try until two days after she turned 10 months when she just up and started crawling like an expert. We suspect she'd been practicing in secret and our daycare provider agrees (she said that for a while there, she would put DD down to sit, turn around to hand something to another kid or whatever, and turn back to find DD had moved a couple of feet, but she never moved while being watched!).

She isn't pulling up to standing intentionally, though she's done it twice when going after something she wanted. No cruising along the furniture either, though she can hold herself standing at an activity table or the like.

Our doctor isn't worried and neither are we. She focussed pretty intensely on communication and fine motor control until now, hitting the milestones in those areas on the early side. Kids can't learn everything at once.

  • Just throwing this out there but I don't think the OP was looking for people to respond about their child who was crawling at 6 months etc..... Not helpful and frankly, rude.
