Parenting after a Loss

I guess this is from 4m wakeful?

I assumed the 4 month wakeful would effect DS STTN but instead it's completely messing with his naps.  He normally wakes up around 7am and then goes back to sleep around 9 until about 11am, is up to eat, play, and then naps again from maybe 1-3 or 4.  Well he woke up at 7am this morning and it is  now almost 1:30pm and he still hasn't napped yet today.  I'm trying to get him out of sleeping in the swing so he started in the crib, then the PnP and finally I caved and put him in the swing.  Usually within minutes of being in the swing he is out like a light but nope not today.  He is in the swing just staring at me and is giving me zero signs that sleep is in the near future.  I feel so bad because when he doesn't nap during the day he is miserable when DH gets home and usually goes to be earlier so my husband gets very little if any "happy" baby time with him.  How long does the 4m wakeful period normally last?

Re: I guess this is from 4m wakeful?

  • I have no advice since we're not quite there yet. I just wanted to say that I hope he gets at least a little nap in. And, on the bright side, at least he's sleeping at night ;] Hope it's over soon in any case!

  • Probably.  My DD is normally a 30 min napper and during 4m wakeful she often would only go 20 min.  Sometimes I'd have to hold her & chill in a quiet house (dogs laying down), or she'd sleep in her crib.  Before that, she'd sometimes nap in her stroller which I used to wheel her into whichever room I was doing stuff, but sometimes that was too stimulating.

Oh, and it lasted a few weeks for us.  I hated it.  But DD slept awful at night too and I was normally the one on nightly baby duty since I'm a lighter sleeper than DH.

  • For us, it was 3 long weeks.  It is different for every baby. Hopefully it is not too long for you.
