Hi, I'm the most incompetent mom ever over here. When I put my LO down to nap, all he does is obsessively chew his hands and scream. He's so freaking miserable. I wish he'd eventually put himself to sleep by self-soothing with his hands, but he can't figure that out yet. I nurse him until he's completely asleep, but as soon as I move him anywhere (the crib, the swing, the RnP) he wakes up immediately and begins to chew his hands.
At night we are still swaddling, but honestly we need to stop. LO can roll from tummy to back pretty easily, and can roll from back to side. Still isn't rolling from back to tummy, but I have a feeling that is coming soon.. he tries quite a bit.
His hand skills aren't the best. I've given him teething toys, but he has trouble holding onto them and keeping them in his mouth. He MUCH prefers his hands. He loves chewing on my knuckles, but obviously that isn't helping him nap.
Do I medicate him? Oragel? Teething tabs? What has worked for you guys to make them calm down and go to sleep?
Re: How do I get my teething LO to nap?
I lived for teething tablets with DD #1. They worked wonderefully for her. Some people don't like them, but like I said they worked great for us.
@candace - dumb question, does he wear this or do I? LOL
@schmidters10 - do you use the Hylands one or another brand?
The baby wears them. It sort of numbs their gums. It could be a choking hazard when they sleep so he could wear a bracelet full time but the necklace just during awake hours or when you can watch him.
nothing really worked for us when my DD was teething, granted i never tried the amber necklaces and such. the teething tablets worked some of the time and tylenol worked better when I was desperate. she refused to hold a freezing cold teether and orjel doesn't stay on their gums long enough for it to work.
I have also heard of freezing a bagel and letting them chew and dipping a paci in water and freezing it.
