d&c fears

Freaking out! My d&c is tomorrow and I am scared. I didn't realize the anesthesia was deeper than when I had IVF. Ugh..I know they do this all the time, but i've been lucky enough to never have surgery of any kind so I guess I'm just overreacting. My RE said I could have an epidural if I preferred, but most people don't want that since the recovery is longer. I need some encouragement!

I am so sorry you are going through this. I know it's scary but you will do fine.

In addition to my D&C/hysteroscopy to remove a polyp, I've also had several surgeries requiring general anesthesia (tonsillectomy and 4 knee surgeries) and IMO, it's no big deal.  You should feel pretty much the same as during IVF.  You might be tiny bit groggier coming off the anesthesia, but it's negligible.

I'm so sorry that you even have to go through this, and I know it's scary, but if you can handle IVF, you can handle this.

It's tuff enough to have to deal with a d&c i had my first one last april try not to stress out over it i know its hard i was a mess. The anesthesia is the best way. I woke up and felt great and that made me feel alot better. I remember after i had my 2 kids with the epidural I felt like crap and that's the last thing i think you need after dealing with a loss. I am so sorry you are even having to go through this and I know you probably don't want to hear it isn't too bad (the actual procedure and recovery not the situation) and everything will be okay but it will be okay. Major hugs!!!! My heart breaks for you!

Thanks everyone.  I feel a little better now.  My DH has a fear of anesthesia and so I think his fear was passed on to me.  I told him that maybe he shouldn't mention any of his doubts to me anymore or in the future if I have to be put under.   

I am SO ready to get this over with!

Hi.  I don't post often but I just wanted to give you a little encouragement.  I do anesthesia for d&c's quite often and they will take good care of you.  During the ER you are given a bunch of IV meds that make you sleep, and with the D&C you'll get the same meds but they put a little plastic device in your mouth that delivers the gas that keeps you asleep. And its super quick- quicker than the ER actually!  The only downside is that the gas can cause a little nausea but they should give you meds to prevent that too.  Good luck tomorrow .

Hi how r u feeling? I'm sure u are passed out right now from the anestethsia. I got a lot of rest today and might have my mom take dd tomorrow. Will see how I feel. Hope u r doing well.

Doing ok...very groggy! Can't wait to go to sleep. Did everything go ok with yours? By the way, my RE said I'd have to wait two cycles before my FET..not one. Boo. But maybe we will be on the same time line again!
