The comments in the last post got me thinking, do you get snacks specifically for your sitter? We never go out but have my company dinner tomorrow and have a girl from LOs old DC watching him. What kind of food do you think she would like to have around since I am going to the store tonight anyways. We don't keep a lot of snack food in the house usually and I want her to be comfortable.
Re: S/O snacks for sitter
I usually ask our sitter what she would like for snacks, especially if we have her for an extended period of time. We had her stay with the kids overnight and made sure to have the snacks she likes along with her favorite bagels and cereal in the am.
I usually buy a variety pack snack size bags of chips or cookies. Also a dessert from the bakery. So a sweet and salty choice. We don't really drink soda in our house. I will stock up and buy them when there is a sale like buy 2 get 2 free (12 pk cans) and place them in the fridge as needed for guests/sitters.
If I asked the sitter to be over around dinner time I will order a pizza or swing by a fast food restaurant and ask what they want first. It's a special treat for the kids and makes the transition of us leaving easier too when they are eating french fries.
I would ask her what she likes and have it for her- its just a nice gesture and like you said you want her to feel comfortable- I am sure she will appreciate it!
That sounds like a good plan! I don't always buy something specific but try to be sure to point out a few specific things so they don't worry they're eating up something that I need for a recipe or whatever.
When I babysat as a teen I always preferred to sample the things we did not have in our house. So I would say just give her free reign and maybe some hints, "there's some gouda cheese in there and crackers in the pantry, or precut pineapple, or whatever else you can find...". It was always fun to get snacks that my parents did not stock at home.
