How many iuis before ivf?

Hi -

If you have done (or are doing) IVF - how many iuis did you try before moving on? Injectables? A good friend who has been through this process told me last night that I should move right to IVF if my 2nd iui is a failure ( negative pg test today at 9 dpo:) She said if i was going to do injectables I might as well do IVF with a better chance of success. Both of my IUIs were just with clomid and I have unexplained infertility - no sperm issues etc.

I have hard that most Doctors will do 2 or 3 before moving on but I guess there are a lot of factors.  I'm curious to hear what other say as well.....I am about to do my first IUI and also have unexplained IF and I am thinking I will do 2-3 but might not even move on to IVF, going to cross that bridge when I come to it I guess....

We did three with Femera / Letrozole. No injects. My issue is older eggs. I decided to move on to ivf because then maybe they can find a good egg. My Dr thinks I could do another iui because we have no male issues. But after two years I am tired of waiting.

My RE recommended doing 3 iuis first. He said it usually works within 3 times if it is going to work. I did 4 iuis 3 with injectables before moving to IVF. My insurance covers iui and not IVF, so that's why I even did that many. My infertility is unexplained with a possible cervical factor. My dh has no issues.

My RE was ready to move on to IVF after 2 failed injection IUI cycles. I told her I wanted 1 more try and she was ok with that.

I wanted one more try because it has worked in the past with DS, but at the same time, insurance only overs a lifetime max and I've already used up my max on meds and i have about enough to cover 1 IUI and 1 IVF procedure.

The triplets came from our 6th IUI (first 3 unmed, the rest Clomid.)

Baby #4 was from our 3rd cycle (1st Clomid IUI failed, 2nd Clomid cancelled due to poor response, 3rd 1st try with injectables.)

We just had a failed IUI on injectables and plan to try again in June.

We did 7 IUIs before moving to IVF. If we had not gotten KU with one of them (then lost it) we would have moved to IVF sooner but we thought if we could get KU once with IUI, we had to keep trying because it would happen again.
