waking up

so when my daughter wakes up in the morning she just sits in bed and plays with her stuffed animals and stuff. This seems great and i really did appreciate the extra sleep it allowed me when she was younger but i would actually love if she came and told me she was awake. i cant get her to leave her room for anything before i get up and tell her to. i can call her name from the other room and shell come but before she hears me she stays in bed. its making potty training hard because shell sit in bed and wet her pull up in the morning instead of waking me up or going potty by herself. idk maybe im just crazy but i want her to wake me up. any advice on how to get her to do this? shes 3 years old and ive tried asking her to do this and talking to her about it but nothing. shed sit in there all day if i didnt go get her.

Re: waking up

  • Could you put a potty chair in her room?

  • She's only 3! and sounds amazingly independent. Asking her to make her own decisions about waking you up and/or deciding its time to use the bathroom instead of playing is asking A LOT, some children may be in this routine but it sounds like your daughter needs some time...I'd give it time, why don't you start waking up when before she wakes up for a couple weeks and taking her straight to the bathroom when she does wake up, make it a routine and maybe she'll start doing it on her own. But really a 3 year old shouldn't be responsible for going to the bathroom alone or waking you up, although she may be independent and mature, she is young to be held responsible for making these decisions.

  • Maybe you could just get up earlier and take her to use the bathroom!?

  • I do wake up before her some days but she doesnt wake up at the same time everyday so there are days she is up before me.
  • DS1 is the exact same way. He wakes up in the morning, makes no noise whatsoever, and just lays in bed and plays with his stuffed animals. I love that he can do that, but I feel bad that he's just hanging out in there alone. We've tried explaining that he can get up to get us, but he just won't. He wears underwear all the time including nighttime, but never goes in them, he just waits for us to come get him to go potty, so I can't help you there. Maybe put her in undies and see if she'll wait for you to come get her? Just wanted to let you know you aren't alone with a quiet kiddo in the am!
