Late Term and Child Loss

Warning. See above post before reading. Should I bring dd to a funeral

Need some advice, if you have any Dh and I decided to not let our 2 1/2 year old dd come to the visitation and funeral If my husbands grandma but then his mom said she wants her there. So now Dh says Dd has to go. But I really feel like she isn't ready to handle that kind of situation. She is very smart and aware of her surroundings and I'm worried all the sad people and crying will upset her and cause her to act out or be scared. I don't know what to do? I just don't think an almost 3 year old is ready for that sort of thing. Ideas? She gets upset when I cry so I know she will be upset if she sees her daddy and grandma crying. I should probably mention that my dd has never met this great grandma of hers so i know she won't be upset about that. It's really just the surroundings. She hates rooms full of people and always wants me to hold her and she always tells me she wants to go home. I just think it will be hard on her. Being 32 weeks pregnant and wrangling a almost 3 year old that will more than likely be confused and scared also doesn't sound fun. Either way I want to do the right thing. If anyone has taken small children to funerals please give me some advice on how to handle it or if you recommend taking her or not. Help! :

  • Quick question.  Why did you think it was appropriate to post this here?

  • Flutter, I think that people see the Loss heading and don't read the description. We have had people post about other types of losses here before. I think the post should either be removed or at least have a warning.

I completely agree with you.  I wish people would pay attention.  Makes me feel like other people really treat this board like a freak show.  I also agree that it either needs to be deleted or at least edited to have a warning.  Since I feel this post is completely inappropriate, I vote it gets removed.

  • OP, if you see this, please consider taking your post down. Like PP said, people are turning this board into a freak show when it should be a safe haven for Loss moms. This question likely brings back sad memories for many.
