I am 15 weeks pregnant. We already know she is a girl. We needed to have a CVS done due to some Chromosome mutations that run in the family. I have been on bed rest since Christmas. 2 days after the procedure I started bleeding. Spotting is normal but not blood. The blood got heavier it wasn't straight blood though, it was like bloody mucus & not in my pad only when I peed. There were also little clots sized anywhere from pea size to quarter size. I went to the doctor, both my OB & the high risk center that I go to, that day. Both ultrasounds showed her fine, great heart, healthy placenta, long & closed cervix, no blood around her. So we just waited to see what the outcome would be while on bed rest. I have been on bed rest for 4 weeks. I was just released this past Thursday to light duty because the blood completely stopped. Within two days the blood was back full force, clots & all. Again ultra sound shows she is fine, no bleeding around her, strong heart, healthy placenta. They examined me and they can see the blood coming from my cervix however, it looks healthy, not irritated & again, long and closed. They don't know why it's bleeding. The ultra sound tech called the doctors back in the room and informed them that he also found a Sub Chorionic Hematoma in between the baby & placenta.
So I am back on light bed rest. They are now just worried about me getting
clots from being on bed rest so much which I do know is a very serious risk. So my question is for others who have had these Hematomas, what can you tell me about them and what was your experience. Will the bleeding or the clots stop???? I feel like I can't relax in this pregnancy even in the 2nd trimester because of the constant reminding clots that come out when I use the restroom.
Re: Sub Chorionic Hematoma
With my first pregnancy, I developed one of these right around 13 or 14 weeks. Mine started with some bright red bleeding one night. I called my dr. that night and went in the following day for an ultrasound. That's when they diagnosed it as a subchorionic hematoma. By the second day, the blood had turned brown. I was put on "pelvic rest", which was described to me as "take it easy", but I didn't need to go on bed rest. The type of rest prescribed could vary due to different circumstances such as the size of the hematoma, amount of bleeding? I did end up bleeding/spotting brown to dark brown for over a month pretty consistently. It was explained to me that hematomas can turn into a problem, but the hope is of course that they clear up on their own. The specialist I was seeing didn't seem overly concernced about mine, but also couldn't give me a definite answer to make me feel better. I did make it to full term and now have a healthy 2 year old DS.
I felt the same as you about not being able to relax. You feel like you get out of the first trimester and you should be good to go, but then something like this happens and you are unable to fully relax. I am sorry you are going through this, but hopefully everything will clear up on its own. Take care of yourself and best of luck!
I had my first large bleed around 8 wks. It was a lot of bright red blood and severe cramping. I was sure I was having a m/c, but the u/s showed a strong hb. I went to the OB the next morning and they saw a SCH about 7cmx4cmx3cm but baby looked good. They put me on pelvic rest with no heavy lifting. After that I had about 4 days of light brown spotting before the bleeding stopped.
I thought everything was fine and I continued on the dr's restrictions. We rechecked the size of the clot 2 wks later and it was the same size. About a week after that, I had another episode of a lot of bright red blood and it was back to the OB. The u/s showed another SCH right next to the previous one. After that my OB put me on modified bedrest with weekly u/s to check the size. I'm currently 14 wks, haven't had a change in the size of the SCH, and just started spotting dark brown 2 days ago. I go for another u/s on Monday and I'm hoping that the spotting is just the SCH resolving.
Overall, everyone's experience with SCH's is different. For me, I've been very frustrated at the constant uneasiness and worry that I could start bleeding again at any time. There is an awesome support group on babycenter.com with a ton of other women going through this too.
