Makeup

I don't wear makeup often but now that I'm all old and 30 I've decided to try it again. My eyes are really sensitive, so I'm scurred to try new things in that department. Before I run back to Clinique for the first time in like 5 years, I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations for stuff. I just need eyeshadow and mascara in daytime appropriate shades. And is it ok to wear shimmery stuff on a regular basis or should I do matte finishes? I totally suck at this if you couldn't tell.

Re: Makeup

  • I think "shimmery" shades are okay, I guess. But only because I wear a light shade of gold shimmer... it matches my skin tone perfect but just adds ...some shimmer. I wouldn't wear shimmer colors like purple or green.

I don't really have a brand preference to mascara. I usuallu get what's cheapest. Obviously there are some I liked more than others but I've never paid attention to the brand.

Hmmm... maybe I'm not much help either.

    IDK what your budget is, but as far as eyeshadows go, there's nothing better, IMO, than Urban Decay's Naked 2 palette. All of the shades are good and it is high quality. Plus, it lasts forever. Shimmer is fine for the daytime. Full on glitter is not. Also, shimmer in neutral shades, not bizarre ones like PP said.I like lash stiletto for mascara. Otherwise, falsies by maybelline can be good, too. I It does go on a bit thicker so it can take some getting used to, though.nbsp;

This. I also like Lancme hypnose drama and cover girl lash blast volume, although the thick wand can be awkward at first.

If I wasn't on maternity leave, I would probably spend that much but I'd like to keep it under 25ish for now...have you ever tried Stila products? There's a palette on Amazon for 22 that looks interesting.
  • Classic maybelline mascara all the way. The one in the pink and green tube. Gets rave reviews from beauty editors too, apparently.
For eyeshadows, I have no idea, sorry. I like MAC stuff, usually nude tones.

  • Thank you for the tip! I put Naked II in my Amazon wish list.  I've been wearing shimmery Maybelline for far too long.

  • I love Mary Kay products, but any hypoallergenic brand will do.

You can wear most any color during the day as long as its not dark.  An easy tip is to use a brush for less intense color and a sponge tip applicator for mor intense color.  My favorite colors are purples and greys.  I even wear a purple eyeliner (it's a subtle purple) because its not as harsh of a tone on my fair skin.

That's typically what I wear too. I've tried dept store mascara, but always return to Maybelline,

Same here. And my eyes are very sensitive, but this is one of the few mascaras (even compared to the expensive ones) that doesn't irritate them.

Where can you buy this Urban Decay? I have a Target gift card but I'm guessing it's too high end for there.

You can buy it at Sephora.

OP. I love Mac makeup. They have some beautiful neutral shades.

FredI get my urban decay at Ulta. IDK if they have one by you or not.
It does have a higher price point, but if you are a "club" member free they send you 20 off coupons a few times a year. I would pay full price, though, bc it's quality stuff. An investment, if you will.
Stila stuff is good, too. I've considered their palettes before, especially this one neutral one. I found the one on amazon I'm pretty sure you're referring to based on price. It looks like there are some nice colors. If it were me, I'd probably go to the store and see them in person, though. Test it on the webbing of the back of your hand or the underside of your wrist.
I buy cheap: foundation, powder both loreal true match, mascara usually maybelline something or another, lip balm burt's bees.
I buy expensive: eyeshadow urban decay or benefit, blush benefit, lip gloss urban decay, and eyeliner the 1 stuff
You can mix and match. Don't feel like you have to be brand loyal. Splurge where it counts and cut back where it doesn't.

    Cool, thanks a lot!

Just was at ulta. They have a new naked basics palette in your price range. It was 27.

Awesome, thanks for letting me know. I'll check it out!
  • Mascara! It's about the only makeup I wear, and it's really easy to apply.
