Rock and play

This may be a silly question....but, has anyone figured out how to remove the straps from the rock and play?  I can remove the cover and do so frequently to wash it - but, I can't seem to get the straps out???

Just so you know putting straps in the washing machine is a no no. Especially car seat straps.
