Trouble TTC

Suck it Cyst! ? Laparoscopy Scheduled

Well, I started this week on a super positive note, ovulating all by myself (suck it RE partner who said I wouldn?t) that high is now deflated.

So, went to doctor today with normal RE and went in for a U/S. Good News, my lining looks great and I did ovulate. Bad news, the ?cyst? has gotten bigger and according to my regular doctor and U/S tech thinks that it might not be a cyst, but a hard mass.

So, I talked to my doctor and if I do not get pregnant this month I have two options. Option #1 Wait and see if it goes down or Option #2 Get a Laparoscopy and blast that mass off along with my other cyst on my problem child right ovary (left one is perfect). Either option requires no meds for a while. I have opted for option #2. I know this probably sounds impatient of me but I don?t want to wait and I don?t want that sucker to get worse. I have a progesterone blood test this Friday and a pregnancy blood test for the following week. AF is due on 1/28 and if I am not pregnant the surgery is on 1/31.

So, has anyone had a Laparoscopy before? What should I expect? Ahh IF Sucks.

  • I went on youtube and saw video of lap, almost passed out just watching - not sure if you want to see it, I might have lap done in March and I was curious about procedure too, I had read recovery is 2 day but after reading the tips/comments from link PP posted, it looks like healing is 2 weeks....

  • GL if you end up having the lap. I was told yesterday from my RE that normally it takes 4-5 days to heal but it can take up to 2 weeks...I guess it really depends on the person and how fast they heal.

  • I had a lap in Oct and I was so nervous before surgery. Read so much information and drove myself crazy. Surgery went so smoothly and recovery was not bad at all. About 3 to 4 days and I was back to my old self. I had incision in belly button and less than an inch long incision on my left side near hip bone.
GL and try not to read too much and get upset like I did. It will be fine!
Hopefully you get a BFP this cycle :

  • I haven't had a lap, but just wanted to give you HUGS!  It really sucks when you think things are going well and then the rug is pulled out from under you (for me it was the last cycle of being told I had a maturing follie, only to find out later that it was really 2 small follies right next to each other).  I hope that the lap goes well and you can get back to starting medicated cycles again soon!

  • Great link that PP Cara posted above.

I just had mine done one week ago and it was not nearly as bad as I imagined. That link has some great suggestions, but here are some from me personally.

Wear sweatpants or a loose fitting maxi dress for afterwards. You will be very bloated and have soreness.

My RE gave me Rx for pain pills the day prior to surgery. Fill that beforehand and don't wait to take pills until after you have pain.

My throat was slightly sore afterwards for a couple days. Lots of water and chicken soup broth helped.

My biggest problem was constipation. I was drinking tons of water but still hadn't had a BM three days post surgery. I only took pain pills for a day post lap. I took miralax which can take several days to work. I suggest taking that sooner than what I did, like maybe a day after surgery to keep things moving.

Good luck. I was really nervous because I've never had any medical procedures done but it really wasn't all that bad. After 3 or 4 days I was back to normal activity allowed by RE and back to work.
