Babies: 6 - 9 Months

CIO and MOTN consistency

OK so we let 6.5 month old DD CIO when we put her down for the night.  THat has been consistent.

BUT she stopped STTN and at first she would settle herself back down.  BUT she has been sick on an almost weekly basis since starting daycare and I'm concerned about her getting enough fluids.  So I was nursing her at night if she woke up.

Well, guess what.  She is back to getting up every 3-4 hours.  Last night I tried to let her soothe herself back to sleep but I think she went on and on for about 45 minutes.  Maybe 60?  I think she would dose off and then wake back up.  Sometimes she wimpers but it seems to escalate.

I'm sick too.  Everyone is sleep deprived (ok, everyone on this BOARD is sleep deprived!)

Any tips on how to get back to her soothing through the night rather than my nursing her?  Do I just need to tough it out?

Re: CIO and MOTN consistency

  • Consistency, consistency, consistency.  That is really my best advice.  We used the Sleep Lady Shuffle to "sleep coach" our son into sleeping in his crib and through the night.  And right when it was going well, he got sick and all bets were off.  I nursed him back to sleep when he woke up at night when he was sick.  As soon as I thought he was feeling better, we did a modified version of the shuffle and after a couple nights he was back to sleeping through.  You just have to be consistent with your approach.  If you have any doubt in your mind about whether your baby is well enough or not, then wait until you are sure.  That way you won't crumble at 2am.
