If it were free, would you have a procedure done to help control your weight? ie. Gastric Bypass or something similar. Obviously, this is fantasy land and completely hypothetical. [Poll]
No. Why have a "free surgery" when you can just as easily change your habits, for free- without having to be cut open.
I have a friend who had the Gastric Bypass surgery and she looks terrible now. She lost so much weight so fast, she just has skin upon skin hanging everywhere. It's really gross. Her boobs look like empty sacks where breasts used to be. Insurance doesn't cover one penny of the corrective surgery she needs, so she's screwed.
Meanwhile, my sister went on a diet and lost 100+ lbs in about 8 months. She also has the skin, but no where near the level of my friend, and she's now working on doing some toning to help with her saggy skin.
Also surgery doesn't fix the problem in your brain. You have to fix that on your own, and if you don't get it in check you are almost always going to gain all the weight back over time.
And that's my 2 cents.

I 100% agree with you. I managed a Weight Loss Surgery Center for 5 years. Some patients look great and change their lifestyle, but most of them end up with other bad habits, look terrible or need to have another bypass or lap-band (revision surgery) because they didn't stick to it. A lot lose their hair because of malnutrition because they don't stick to the vitamins they need to take.
I think if you eat healthy and exercise, so what if you are a little overweight.
Pregnant with Letrazole (Femara) on the first cycle with DD after TTC 2+ years TTC#2 with Letrazole (Femara) since January 2012 BFP 06.29.12 EDD 03.11.13 natural m/c 07.13.12 BFP 09.22.12 EDD 05.31.13 natural m/c 10.07.12 CP 11.09.12 BFP 01.01.13 EDD 09.15.13 d&c 01.24.13
I would totally do it if it were free. I agree that I'd have to fix my brain most importantly, but I would definitely take the free first step if I could!
I wouldn't. My mom got lap band surgery and she hasn't had to get it redone, she's doing well, but she could have done it with diet and exercise. She didn't tell me until like a week before and I was pretty upset about it. Sure, it's her body, but I was concerned for her. It was a fairly new thing and I feel like she could have done more to lose the weight. I could probably count on one hand the amount of times I ever saw her exercise. And I can't really even think of ONE time right now. She did lose a lot of hair right afterward and that made me even more disturbed.
I was there for her when she had it and I've never brought it up since, but I don't really think it was the best thing. She did lose weight. She still eats junk but less of it because it feels like it's in her throat. Blehhh.

I'd go for it. Less work and thought. I'm a runner too, I just love food. I'd like to take food out of the equation.
