Pregnant after 35

Let the craziness begin...kind of a rant

So I took two HPT yesterday with obvious positive results. Went to my primary this AM to confirm.  My appointment was at 10:30, so obviously not my FMU. Nurse said there is a faint line, so they want to draw blood. I asked if the fact that the line was "faint" made a difference. They said it is not conclusive, to which I responded "A LINE IS A LINE!" They ran the pee test again and got another line. Blood results will be back tomorrow.  So of course I went and bought three more First Resonse tests.  Just took one and the line from today is darker than the line from yesterday. AF isn't due until Friday, so I'm hoping the doctors test just isn't as sensitive.

talk about going crazy!

  • To some degree, the amount of the dye in the test can vary, giving you a different density of line. But really-- a line is a line.

The blood test is definitive, anyhow. It will give you a number that will indicate pregnancy and also if the pregnancy appears to be strong. When my sister had her beta with my nephew, however, the first number was so low it was "borderline positive" but he turns 6 in a couple weeks.

Enjoy being pregnant for now, I say! Congratulations!

  • If AF isn't due til Friday, it's going to be faint.  Doesn't hurt to have the blood test though. Hang in there.

  • As Danielle said, there can be some variation in dye between batches, and since you caught it so early, it may take a little more time to darken up. I did not find out about my pregnancy until I was 7 weeks along, but from what I did notice, I suspect it was a slow starter, and I probably would have freaked out if I had known right after conception occurred. (At 7 weeks, the second line was practically NEON. My blood test came back with a beta of 34,000.)

  • The more hydrated you are, the lighter the line will be.  Let us know what tomorrow's blood test results show but I am sure you will have good news.

  • You're pregnant for sure.  I am sure the blood test will confirm it.  Let us know!

  • Can I just tell you how awesome you guys are?? Maybe it is all the hormones, but seriously the fact that you all actually care about my test results means so much! I haven't told any of my non-computer friends yet (obviously, it has barely been 24 hours!),so the fact that I can come here and verbalize my concerns means a lot.  I love my DH, but come on, he is a man and he just doesn't get it sometimes!

Happy and Healthy 9 months to all of you!
