IVF Vet ?: Menopur Burn

This is a question for all you IVF vets out there. I did my first Menopur shot last night and MAN did that thing burn. The whole time I was injecting it I was hissing through my teeth because of the burning sensation. I also bled quite a bit and have a nice lil bruise today.

Any tips to decrease the burning sensation? Should I wait a few minutes to inject it after mixing, ice the area, pinch the skin more, or am I grasping at straws and just have to deal with the pain? If I can do anything to help a little bit with the pain, I'm all for it!!

When I did my injection, it didn't hardly burn at all. I did do that one first, before my Follistim, to get it out of the way first and I went REALLY slow. Like I counted to 15 or 20 during the injection itself. I never iced for any of my injections.

Good luck! I hope you can figure out a way that's less painful!

I actually never felt a burn with Menopur (but I did with my trigger shot).  I would ice the area first.  Also, I did all my injections in my thigh, which was less painful overall for me.

No suggestions, it just burns. I always try to do it quick, while most time swearing. Good luck!!!

I so feel your Menopur pain! It burns like hell for me every single night! It is just awful and never has gotten better for me. I mix the Follistim and Menopur, and I can seriously feel the second the Follistim is done going in and the Menopur starts. I would definitely suggest icing for at least 5 minutes (or until numb). I have been bleeding and bruising every night. It all just SUCKS!!! I start swearing at MH's sperm as he injects me every night. Somehow, you will make it through, I promise!!! Oh, and I also lay a heating pad on my tummy after the burn for a few minutes. That really soothes it. I know some think that could be harmful, but all of my docs have said it was completely safe.

Hi! I started Menopur on Monday morning - before work crazy! Anyway I lay with an ice pack the entire time DH is mixing and trying to play the part of every doctor he has seen on tv. The ice really seems to help as well as I pinch my own skin up right before the injection and I squeeze pretty hard - seems to take my mind off of it, oh and i sing or start rambling about what i am going to do that day. i am a huge baby when it comes to injections. I hope that helps! Oh and buy some cute band-aides - those help too if only to make you smile. GL!

Menopur burned for me as well. I alternated injecting it relative fast (for less burning time) and injecting slowly (for less intense burning over a long time). You could ice it before hand but for me that did absolutely nothing.

There doesnt seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason to my menopur burn, but I do notice it helps to inject slowly and make sure it's mixed really well.

Yep, it burns. Ice and pinch is the way I did it.

I think I was immune to the true Menopur burn since its nowhere near as the fun of my Lovenox injection, LOL.

Like pp said inject it really really slow. That did help me out a lot and I never iced any of my shots, I didn't really feel that I needed it but if it helps go for it!

Ugh yes burned for me too! I tried two mix it and let it sit while I did my other injection (gonal f). I also did ice each time before hand but it is just not fun. Afterwards I rewarded myself with some sweets! Hang in there!

Honestly, nothing ever decresed the burning sensation for me. I tried ice, pinching myself extra hard...mixing the injections...nope...still burned. Sorry:-(

Oh yes the lovely burn. For all my cycles and will when I start it tom. I do it slow and alternate sides. I also pinch and put it in a 90 degree angle. I think there is no real way to go around the burning. I was told not to ice, so I never did with any injections. If you are bleeding and bruising prob. putting it in to hard or pressing. Pull back on the plunger more
