Infertility

Way to tell DH when you get a +

My first beta is always on a Monday, so for my last 2 cycles, I have POAS the Saturday or Sunday before.  In both cases, they were + and I surprised DH both times.  First with a set of books he wanted...saying he had to finish them in 9 months.  Second was his favorite book from childhood.  Unfortunately both ended in m/c.  Even though the first + doesn't always mean we'll have a baby, I still want to celebrate it (and what it this one works - wouldn't it be nice to have a story to tell our child of how I told his/her dad)?

IVF has taken a lot of the fun/surprises out of TTC.  I just want this one thing to feel somewhat normal.  Any suggestions?  And looking for a different idea this time - maybe that'll help the little embie stick!

My TTC Journey:
Dx: Hypothalamic amenorrhea / mild PCOS (Pretty much a hormone/ovulatory disorder)
Progesterone to induce period w/ the goal of Clomid - never got period (September 2011). Referred to RE.
Femera - never responded to the meds (December 2011)
Clomid with TI - BFN (February 2012)
Injectables (Menopur) - hyperstimulated/canceled (March 2012)
Injectables #2 (Menopur) with TI- BFN (May 2012)
IVF - OHSS (transfer canceled), but 11 frozen! (June 1012)
FET - 1 transferred on 8/09/12. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): 350.3; Beta#2: 365; Beta#3: 157. Biochemical pregnancy.
FET # 2 - 1 transferred on 11/01/12. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): 337; Beta#2: 769. BFP!!! 1st ultrasound 11/28/12 showed heartbeat, but measuring 5 days behind. 2nd ultrasound 12/05/12 - miscarriage.
FET # 3 - 1 transferred on 1/24/13. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): BFN.
FET # 4 - 2 transferred on 3/21/13.  Bet #1 (11dp5dt): 660; Beta#2: 1,300.  Miscarried at home @ 6 weeks.

FET # 5 - 2 transferred on 7/12/13.  Beta #1 (10dp6dt): BFN.
Attempted an IUI in late August 2013, but didn't respond well.
IVF #2 with PGS - Stims started 10/28 with retrieval on 11/11.  Of 14 mature eggs, 10 fertilized, 4 made it to Day 5 & 1 made it to Day 6. We did PGS on the Day 5 embryos, and 3 of 4 were normal. Had ET on 11/17. Beta #1 (8dp6dt): 203. Beta #2 (10dp6dt): 618. We since had two ultrasounds & on 12/19, our RE released us to the OB.  On 1/02/14, we had our first ultrasound with the OB where we heard the heartbeat.  We are so thankful for the blessing & crossing every finger & toe for a healthy & successful pregnancy.

If its a BFP, then I have some time to do something creative for when he wakes up. I'm going to keep an eye on this post.....or I'll come back if I think of something Smile

  • I bought a onsie that says "My Dad Rocks" when we started TTC 2 years ago, thats been at the top of our closet I've been planning to give him when I would get a BFP.  Now, it might be harder to surprise him, since we have found out he has zero sperm, and we are doing DIUI next month.  He knows I'll be able to test 2 weeks after we do the DIUI, but I'm hoping he loses track of the days, and I can still be able to surprise him with the onsie.

  • I have always wanted to surprise DH with this news by putting a shirt on my dog saying "Big sister" because DH is always dressing up the dog (BTW it's a German Shepherd, so she always looks ridiculous in clothes)

    But....

I will probably run out of the bathroom, screaming, crying and snotting trying to tell him I'm KTFU. He probably wont understand me because when I cry I don't sound human, and then I'll probably shove the pee stick in his face!

Yes, I am in NC!  Triangle area, you?

And in regards to surprising DH, he isn't the most organized person, so he doesn't keep exact track of things.  I just don't tell him when my first beta is.  At this point, he can probably figure it out, but I don't think he makes an effort to do so that I can (hopefully) have this moment to tell him.

  • I totally hear ya! I've never had a BFP, but when we first started TTC in early 2011, I put together a gift bag of daddy and baby items to be ready as the announcement. They have been in a cute gift bag, wrapped and ready to grab and give to him the moment the BFP happened. Inside of the bag, theres a Handbook for New Dads, a baby onesie that says "Wish Granted", a picture frame that says "I love my daddy" and in the frame itself it says "coming 2011" (yeah right!.) I also have a couple of daddy and baby animal story books, and lastly a musical card that plays the song "Celebrate good times" and the outside is addressed to: Daddy.

I've secretly gone up in the closet throughout our infertility journey a few times and sat with the different items on my lap and just sobbed. But I still want to be able to give this gift bag to him when that day a BFP finally does come, even if he's slightly expecting it. He's definitely not expecting the gift bag! I won't let IF steal every bit of magic away from me.

I doubt the batteries in the card still work, but whatever, it's the thought that counts, right? :)

  • I want to do something special too if/when we ever get another BFP.

My first BFP I told him while bawling my eyes out that we were pregnant but I was bleeding. It was a sad, sad day.

With the FET I haven't kept him in the know of every single little itty bitty thing going on so I may be able to record his reaction too...like I've always wanted....I'm hoping.

DH is in the daily 'can we test yet' boat and has a copy of our treatment schedule, so it won't be much surprise.

  • Unfortunately, I've just gotten to the point of just telling him, and then when the beta comes in, what the number was. This time, I don't think there will be any POAS action though, I'm going to try to hold out the full 2ww. And unfortunately, my office makes you wait 2 full weeks from transfer day for the first beta.

I totally hear ya! I've never had a BFP, but when we first started TTC in early 2011, I put together a gift bag of daddy and baby items to be ready as the announcement. They have been in a cute gift bag, wrapped andnbsp;ready to grab and give to him the moment the BFP happened. Inside of the bag, theres a Handbook for New Dads, a baby onesie that says "Wish Granted", a picture frame that says "I love my daddy" and in the frame itself it says "coming 2011" yeah right!. I also have a couple of daddy and baby animal story books, and lastly anbsp;musical card that plays the song "Celebrate good times" and the outside is addressed to: Daddy.
I've secretly gone up in the closet throughout our infertility journey a few times andnbsp;sat with the different items on my lapnbsp;and just sobbed.
    .
This makes me cry. I so know that feeling. This month is three years trying. Big hugs to you Liz. I hope your snowflakes are your miracle
