Controversial Bump

And GO!
In lieu of the great rice cereal debates of 2013 I thought this could be interesting. Either put the kabash on supposed stupid questions and more googling before posting... Or just stir the pot...

Some things you never thought were controversial until you found the bump? Or things you've never heard of and maybe think are crazy.

Re: Controversial Bump

  • Binkies, cereal, solids before 6 mos, bf vs ff, cloth vs disposable, CIO, that's all I can think of now there are more when they hit toddlers too but can't think now...

  • I was thinking about the rice cereal uproar this morning, and it got me thinking about other things too. What surprises me is that bed sharing isn't more controversial because it's a suffocation risk. Actually, I can guess why it's not controversial, but it seems hypocritical in a way because all of these hot button topics seem to be about the safety and best interest of the baby, right? In full disclosure, I'm not against bed sharing and do it from time to time myself.

Oh, and crib bumpers...never knew that was such a hot topic.

I was wondering about this as well.  I personally do not know any doctors that recommend or are even ok with it.  I did it quite often with my older daughter but with this baby I am a little to scared and only do it on occasion when I know the alarm will be going off soon.  Just in the last week or two around my area an infant was smothered by the mother falling asleep.

FWIW, my doctor is just fine with bedsharing DONE PROPERLY. Most injury/death that is blamed on bedsharing is doing it improperly, like while taking meds/drugs, heavy sleeper, etc. I've bedshared most days in almost 3 years and there has never been a time that I felt my kids were in danger.

Also, some things aren't controversial so much as they've been scientifically studied and found to be too dangerous to continue even if our parents did them, like crib bumpers and rice cereal in a bottle. I think that is a big difference. Rice cereal? Controversial. Rice cereal in a bottle? Dangerous.

  • I forgot about those... Yes definitely bed sharing, epi and natural

Front facing vs rear facing as LO gets older, watching TV even educational shows my dd has learned SO much watching Barney!, meds to give Lo... Sometimes all organic or natural doesn't work!!

    What's controversial about this?
The cereal in a bottle thing is news to me. We did it in NICU to help kids with aspiration issues because thickened liquids helped prevent choking. Now we just do thickener but stillnever heard this as a thing.

  • Everyone has their things that they are really hardcore about and then other things that they are more relaxed about.

I am crazy about carseats and RF as long as possible. DD#1 was rear facing until after 2 years old. I check every carseat if someone else put it in to make sure it fits my standards before my kids go in it. I am just crazy about carseat safety!

I also am crazy about organic milk(obviously this is about DD#1). I mean if she has a glass or two at other places of regular milk that is fine but I send organic milk to school and we only buy organic milk for her.

Those are my obsessions but I am more relaxed in other places where others may be more tightened up.

Everyone raises their children I hope to the best of their abilities. If the child is happy and safe I think that is really what is most important.

  • I do remember a post a year or so ago that had I think over 200 replies about not putting the cart away in the cart rack in a parking lot. Poster said it  was raining and she just wanted to get her baby in the car but then didn't want to walk so far away from the car to put the cart away.

That one got down right dirty. It was very amusing

  • Also Gender parties. Wowzers that was a controversial topic last year.

My personal opinion if you are not asking for more gifts then I think it is fine.

We had a family BBQ and did the cake with the gender color in the middle. We hosted the party and our families loved that we included them in on finding out what we were having. Plus since you don't really do anything like showers to celebrate the second baby we thought it was a nice little way to celebrate her.

Anyway it is pretty common around here to have a gender party regarldess if it is your first or second baby.

having more than 200 posts is apparently very controversial.

    And snark.

    and gifs. ;)

Who knew gifs could irritate people so much. It's not like they are getting rick-rolled or anything...lighten up!

Speaking of, the grammatical difference between gender and sex. That only got rammed into the ground a thousand times
