To Tell or Not to Tell....

Hi ladies. I am expecting my first child and am about 11 weeks along. I had my first appointment last week (at 10 weeks) and all they did was a physical, blood tests, and a urine test. They did not even try to hear the heartbeat. They said we will hear it at 14 weeks. I am wanting to announce to everybody that I am pregnant but now I am hesitant to since I haven't heard the heartbeat. I thought I would be in the clear by now to tell people. Should I go ahead and tell people or wait the few more weeks? My family already knows but a lot of my friends and coworkers do not. Thanks for the help ladies.

I'd wait. I know it feels like eternity to wait, but it will go by fast.

I am on the same boat. We saw our bean and a heartbeat but the doctor didn't measure. I was going to tell people after my first appt but now I am hesitant. I go back on 2/11. I think I will wait until then.

If you have waited this long then keep waiting. I am only 7 weeks and told everyone because we kept getting random phone calls from friends back home to tell us congrats. Turns out DH best friend has a big mouth. So instead of him getting to share our excitment I figured we wanted to do it.

It's hard, but I would wait! Getting that assurance of the ultrasound will really make it official and give you a little something extra to tell!

I'm kind of hesitant to full on tell everyone until I hear or see the baby. Seems it's more real that way somehow?

We're not telling anyone, even our parents, until after our 2/11 appt.

I concur with everyone.  It is SO hard to wait, but it will bring you so much more relief if you can tell people without having to add the caveat, "we haven't seen the heartbeat, but..."  We saw ours with a healthy HB on 12/21, and told our parents on Christmas. There is a small part of me that wishes we had waited as we had to add in that little tidbit, "it's super early, but..." and every time we talk to them I have to keep reminding them how early things are, and that we haven't had an U/S since the 21st when it was only 8 weeks.  We're still waiting for the free world announcement next week after our 1/22 appointment.   I want to hear the HB again and see that everything is healthy and growing as it should.  Good luck with the wait!!!

I would wait.....I am waiting until after my 13wk u/s...my immediate family knows and my BFF, but not extended fam and other friends. I know the feeling I hate waiting I have another 2.5 wks to go I think....I just cant wait to tel everyone.

BUT as far as work goes this is my 3rd LO and I am trying to wait to the last min fingers crossed I can hold off telling bossman until March.

It's ultimately up to you and what you feel comfortable with. If you've waited this long 4 more weeks isn't too long. If anything you can tell immediate family and your closest friends if you can trust them not to tell. Do you have a home Doppler? Maybe try to hear the hb with that.
