Back to Formula

Sigh... What a battle it's been.

Backstory: We were told to supplement after every feed when DS was 2 weeks old. That eventually dropped to one, two oz, bottle a day. In early December, the doctor told us to stop supplementing.

Today: We went to the doctor to get his rash checked out and they decide to weigh him. He is 12 10 and has dropped from the 20th percentile to the 10th for weight and his length jumped from 80 to 90. So, he is tall and skinny. Anyway, the new doctor we just met wants me to supplement 2 oz a day again.

I know this isn't a big deal I just am frustrated with my body. Hugs and cookies to everyone who has been through something similar.

  • I assume you've tried fenugreek and oatmeal and the other galactagogues already... I remember reading there are prescriptions that can increase milk supply so I'd talk to your doc about that.  And don't feel bad because you're struggling; this is not your fault!  The human body doesn't always act like it's supposed to, and that includes our boobs.

    Hugs.

  • Sorry hun. Hugs! Just try not to stress. It's not that much

to supplement. You're still doing great!

  • I am in the same boat.  Check out my post I posted a few hours ago entitled "Hi...I'm new." I pretty sure mine is a lac of supply.

  • It's ok! Sometimes the body just doesn't do what we want it to!
In the mean time boost up that water intake, add some extra boobie time if you can, or pump an extra time after a feeding, and you can try the galatologues however you say and spell it.. I never had luck with that... Only water!

Just know you're doing the BEST for baby!

  • Which prescription med are you taking? I took Reglan and Domperidone both and had much better results with Dom. Also, my pedi told me as long as LO is gaining weight and having wet/dirty diapers, then BFing is going okay. I was worried when he dropped from the 40th percentile down to 25th, but my pedi wasn't.
