A post on the 69 month board was talking about shoes. I was worked up before about this seemingly small issue. Now, I'm really upset. DHs grandmother, so DSs great grandma watches him two days a week. I take DSs socks off as soon as we get home from anywhere and I never put shoes on him. I feel like he can't do anything with them on. Grandma insists that he will never walk unless he has shoes on to prevent him from walking on his toes, which he does do. So she makes him wear high top lace up shoes all day. He's there 9 hours. I've been trying to tell myself it's only two days a week but today when I went there she said he hadn't been as active. Then he got in position to crawl to me and stopped after two paces and looked back at his feet and sat up and fricken sighed! He couldn't crawl because his ankles couldnt bend! I talked to her the first time about it last week and again today and I could tell she wasn't going to change anything. Then that post just sent me over the edge about it. Poor DS, I don't know what else to do.
Re: A post on 69 mo board...
Did she buy the shoes for him?
Why don't you go out and buy him a pair of the super flexible See Kai Runs or Pediped style infant shoes. Then she'll be happy he's wearing shoes and he can still move around.
And soon enough, he'll be old enough to take them off himself anyway.
OMG! This broke my heart for the little guy
poor buddy!!

Haha, sure...
Yes, barefoot is best but having shoes 2 days per week isn't the end of the world. Don't beat yourself up. From what I've seen on here you are a great Mom.
Maybe have him wear them home next time you pick him up from there and when he goes back you can conveniently forget them and/or replace them with the soft shoes.
You an always play the dr card - tell her the doctor said no shoes - if you think it'll help.
DD tore the top of her big toe open crawling recently so she was in her Robeez boots for 2 weeks straight (plus it's been freezing cold lately). She does really well in them and they stay on.
