I'm 33 weeks prego/due March 5 and my lo's will be 15 months apart. I was wondering which wrap/carrier is best for breastfeeding 2 while looking after 1. I have a Moby Wrap but not sure if you can or how to use for bf. Also wondering if any others are better?
Re: Best carrier for bf
I have a Moby and Ergo. The Moby doesn't work, and I don't think the Ergo will either without loosening the straps and then using your hands as extra support...thus defeating your purpose.
My friend nursed her older baby in a ring sling. I never saw her do it, so I don't know if it's hands free. It wouldn't work with a newborn hands free either way.
I'm afraid there isn't a way to nurse a small baby hands free. My little ones will be 13.5 months apart, so I'd love to see a happy answer to this question. Have you asked on the breastfeeding and attachment parenting boards? Those women might also have an idea.
If you get an answer from them, will you share?
I easily nursed my NB in the Beco Gemini at the park with a A&A blanket tucked around and walking around Target. I would adjust one side lower to get him the right level. YouTube has some videos that helped.
I have heard great things about ring sligs and being able to nurse a NB easily and discreetly.
I've nursed with no problem in both the Moby and Ergo.
The Moby was really easy the first couple months when the baby was still pretty tiny. I would wrap her in the hug hold and was able to easily move her into a position to nurse and back to her normal position when done. I only had to slightly support her head with my hand but was still able to interact and tend to DD1.
When she got a bit larger I found the Ergo to be much easier. I loosened the waist strap a bit to lower her down and the infant insert basically supported her head. Nursing on the go has made life so much easier!
Way back when I was pg with DS1, I remember someone posting a You Tube tutorial about nursing in the Ergo, you should search around You Tube for it.
Also, more generally, it takes some time for both of you to get comfortable and good at nursing in the carrier, so keep at it and don't give up if it doesn't seem to work out the first few times. Practice around the house. Also, maybe XP this on the AP board, lots of BFing babywearers over there.
Good luck!
