whats your opinion on stretch marks in a bikini?

I am working really hard on getting my body back, and I want to be back in a bikini this summer. But no matter what kind of shape im in, i will always have these stretch marks. They have faded to white, but you can still see them a lot. And the skin on my stomach is a little droopier and my bellybutton looks different. Would you wear a bikini with stretch marks? What would you think if you saw someone in a bikini with them? Before I got pregnant with DD, i would have secretly passed judgement. But now that i am a mom and i get it, I would think its pretty kick ass if i saw someone rocking a bikini and their stretch marks proudly. I wish i could be that brave.

  • I would not judge if I saw you in public.  I have also thought about bikini this summer.  Though after 3 kids, I have a little farther to go to feel comfortable.

  • I have never really had the confidence to wear a bikini in the first place (just a very brief period in the summer of '02) so I just don't know.  I lucked out in that I didn't get stretch marks (if you ask me, it's because I already had plenty of skin to work with) but I still have that extra loose skin pooch going on that is driving me nuts!  My goals is to be able to finally rock a bikini with confidence on my 40th birthdday...and I now have just three months to get there.

  • Wear a bikini and be proud!  I bet most people won't even notice your stretch marks.  I've never had a perfect body, but pre-pregnancy I was in decent shape and wore bikinis despite some flaws.  Post baby, I have more flaws, but if I can get remotely close to my pre-baby weight and muscle tone, then I'll wear a bikini.

  • As a mom I would totally be proud of you and think that you are a confident woman!  Before, I would have noticed but wouldn't have cared.  I hope to be there one day but my stomach is still not very toned along with the stretch marks...

  • I'm in the same boat as you. While I don't judge others, it's tacky, I'm selfconscious. I also have a scar on both sides of my ankle from surgery right before I found out I was pregnant with DD. It's awful.

That said I'm thinking of getting a spraytan to see if it helps camouflage. I say wear it if you're comfortable. Otherwise there are very pretty wraps, etc. To boost one's confidence
  • I say go for it.  why not? I'm a FTM and not very far along but I've gotten stretch marks just from gaining a few pounds and then losing them throughout my life and those stretch marks never stopped me before.  I wouldn't let what someone else may or may  not be thinking get in the way of what makes you feel good.  and if wearing a bikini post baby makes you feel good then do it!

  • I'm doing it after 2 summers of not.  the first summer after I had DD I didn't even get in a swim suit I was too embarrassed.  Last summer my mid section still bothered me....this summer I will rock it.  I also have stretch marks on my butt which are also faded but the stretch marks never bothered me.  it was the pooch that did. I already bought my 2 piece when victoria secret had them on clearance at the end of last summer

  • I am probably going to get flamed for this, but I think it is kind of tacky for older women to wear bikinis.

Hmm...since I'm the only one who mentioned anything about age, I'm going to guess this is possibly directed at me.  Don't care...especially when I constantly see teens and 20somethings sporting muffin tops their quite proud of.  Besides...I'd like to think this is not about me because now that it's almost here, I honestly don't consider myself an 'older woman'.

  • I wouldn't judge someone that has a bikini body but also has stretch marks. I see them as battle scars. I personally don't wear bikinis anymore, but I don't have my bikini body back yet and I hate having my scars exposed, but that is just on me, no problem with seeing them on others. So I usually wear a tankini top with surf shorts (you know the shorter shorts). I choose these bottoms because I think they are more flattering than the bikini bottoms that typically come with a tankini.

I live in FL and am always in shock and awe over what some people will wear to the beach. I judge the 80 year old lady that is wearing a bikini with her pot belly hanging down to her thighs with that terribly wrinkled overly tanned skin. I really don't need to be seeing that. Put that stuff in a flattering one piece with a great looking surrong before you walk out of your house.

  • While I personally wouldn't, oh heck, I personally hate wearing anything to do with water sports...  IMO, you have to wear what YOU feel confident in.  If you're self-conscious about the stretch marks showing, no matter what, you aren't going to be confident in that style of swimsuit.  Give yourself a year for them to fade some more and go from there.  You never know, you could end up like a friend of mine who competes in bodybuilding and wears the beyond skimpy posing bikini's...

  • I definitely wouldn't judge if I saw someone doing it - I have a very close friend of mine with 2 kids and she is physically in the best shape of her LIFE but has quite a bit of stretch marks. She rocks a bikini and honestly, she inspires me. I'm not comfortable in one yet b/c I jiggle. But if I didn't, I DANG SURE would be wearing one. : )

This. Also my mom is 52 and looks amazing! I dont look nearly as good as her but I also dont work as hard as she does either. She wears a bikini PROUDLY because she worked HARD to maintain her body after 5 kids and age has nothing to do with how a person looks/feels.

Wow i hope thats not being directed to you because 40 is NOT an older woman and like you said ive seen girls as teens and 20s sport bikinis and look awful but to OP i think if your confident to rock a bikini do it i woulnt pass judgement

  • My baby is due in June so I may have a few weeks to lounge by the pool but by then ill be huge so I probably wont get into a bikini but I have definitely thought about whether I will be showing up at the pool after our daughter arrives. I live on a lake and our condo has a pool that I used to go to religiously so this will be a huge adjustment for me. I am almost 23 weeks so no stretch marks yet but pre pregnancy I always had barely visible stretch marks on my butt that I was self conscious about but it never stopped me from living in a bikini all summer. I will def be self conscious if I get them on my stomach, but honestly who cares? You carried a baby for 9 months, you brought a human into this world! I would proudly rock your stripes ;)
