I think DS is going to be going down to one nap. I know we have discussed this before but how many other LOs are down to one nap? Did it help them sleep better at night? What time is their one nap?
DS has been waking up around 5am the last few weeks. I think it's because he takes such a late nap in the afternoon, sometimes he doesn't wake up til after 6pm. He won't go down for a first nap til atleast 11 am, no matter how hard I try to get him to take it earlier. Then he won't take his second nap til almost 5! We have tried rearrange his naps but he won;t have it. So I'm thinking it may be better to just let him take his one nap and move his bedtime up a little. Right now his bedtime is about 8, I'd like to make it 7/7:30. Do you ladies think it will help?
TIA!
Re: Who is down to one nap a day?
I always thought 16months was about the age to make the switch. B was early (maybe 2 months ago) and it was easy because he'd been having rotten naps.
I would def just start pushing his nap back a half hour at a time until pretty soon you'll be able to feed him lunch and then put him down. B was sooo tired at first, but he's used to it now. He usually sleeps 2-3 hours in the afternoon and still sleeps 7-7 like a champ!
Good luck!
Yes I think an earlier bedtime should help. D has been on the one nap schedule for a couple months or more. He naps from 12-2, bedtime at 7 or 7:30, usually wakes at 6:30am. On weekends our schedule gets off sometimes and he may take late nap but we are flexible on weekends. When daycare starts up on Monday he's back on track.
Thanks ladies! I was thinking it must be time to go down to one. He use to be an awesome napper but the last month or so they have really gone to poop.
I think tomorrow I'll try pushing back his nap a little and slowly move up his bedtime.
One nap a day here and loving it! I have no idea if the one nap a day has aided in his, dare I say...awesome STTN habits, OR if it was my stance that has helped him (I created a routine and stuck to it... NO MATTER WHAT and I never wake the baby up if he is sleeping).
My ILs side eye his 3:00 pm 1st nap time. BUT the kid does not wake up until sometimes 9:30 am! We have an awesome-structured routine everyday so from 11-2:00 we are usually out exploring the city! We come home eat if Bo needs lunch, books and songs then I put him down. Without a peep he naps for 2.5-3.5 hours! Last night it was almost 4 hours!!! He is teething and growing so this late nap...long nap situation right now is working!
While Bo is napping I can make dinner (and bump)!
6:30 dinner
7:15 bathies
7:30 books and prayers
8:00 dreamland!!!
** If while we are out Bo falls asleep in his carseat... I do not push for a second nap. I shoot for my ideal routine but make and accept changes as they come.**
This is very similar to our loos schedule. He takes his nap between 2-3PM and naps for 2-3 hours. I get so much done during the afternoons!
I am loving your schedules! I would love for him to sleep while I make dinner. That would be the shiz! Plus, I could get early morning workouts in....which is almost impossible at the moment with him waking at 5 am.
Sounds like a good schedule to try.
J gets up even earlier now with one nap, and I hate it. He goes to bed around 6:40 and gets up at about 4:50 am. He has a 2 hour nap at daycare, but he's obviously not getting enough sleep. He has consistently needed 10.5 hours of sleep at night instead of the recommended 11, which is fine, but that is just too darn early for us (we get up for work around 5:15, and would love some time just to get ready before he wakes up). I still don't know what to do with it.
Oh, I almost forgot. J does need some "downtime" around 5-5:30 pm. He doesn't nap, but that's our usual time for driving home from daycare, and he just lays his head back and "zones" out. That's harder on the weekends, so sometimes we take a quick drive, or we'll lay on the floor and read books, or try to watch tv, etc.
Sounds like our kids are on a similar schedule. N goes to be between 6 and 6:30 and is up between 5 and 5:30. She is usually content to babble in her crib till 6 so we don't get her up unless she is upset (today she had her arm stuck and was howling). She has typically only needed 10.5 - 11 hours at night and that is now always 11 on one nap. She naps around 11/11:30 for an hour plus and hopefully 2 as she gets used to it. She has to go down a bit later to get the longer nap which makes for a super long morning but she is doing OK. We want to shift her schedule another 15 mins to get a 6:30 bed and 5:30 wake up but are waiting till she is solidly on one nap first so we don't unravel her sleep too much.
