dilation question

When your cervix goes from...lets say a 1 to a 4...can you feel the difference? I was dialted to a 1 a week and a half ago then last Fri I showed no progress.  I don't feel any different from last week and I am worried I'll show no progress on this Friday's appt.

While I never knew I got to 4 cm. I have has two days of real contractions where I timed them and everything. It always stopped but I'm now 45 cm. so I guess my body got here with the contractions and that's how I " felt" it.

I went to a 4 and had no idea.  Very mild cramps and belly tightening.  That's it.

I never made it to 4cm prior to labor but I don't remember ever feeling a difference.

It's not like you will feel your cervix dilating, but you might have some indicators that cervical change is happening.  Like, for example, you might lose your mucus plug or having some bloody show, you might have contractions, or maybe you'll feel baby drop (baby's head sitting lower and putting pressure on your cervix will likely cause change).  Don't get caught up in the numbers though.  They don't mean anything.  You're getting closer to labor regardless of what your cervix is doing and every woman is different as far as how much dilation/effacement happens before labor starts.  Some women go from nothing to active labor, others walk around several cms dilated for weeks at a time.

i went from coned amost a one to 60percent and a 2 without feeling anything. i went from 2 to a 3 with mild menstral like cramps after my membranes were swept on thursday. got another sweep today and im a stretchy 3 and im in lots of pain just not enough pain to be admitted. don't be too disheartened i know lots of people who couldn't feel anything until active labor started.

My water broke 2hrs later i was only at a 1. Maybe 4hrs later i went up to a 4. I couldn't tell but was having contractions which really effectively dilate you. I think everyone is different!

I was 1 cm at 38 weeks. I was convinced I had to be more dilated at 39 because I felt sooo much pressure and more lightning crotch but I was still 1 cm. So personally I did not. When I was in the hospital I went from 1 to 4 over night and I couldn't tell but I also had not been out of bed or stood up since the night before so who knows I I would have felt it.

The first time I was checked I was 2cm and 80% effaced. I was surprised by all the progress. Over the next week the contractions doubled in frequency and length. I was sure I had progressed more. Last Thursday (a week later) I was still 2cm and at 80%. So, you honestly have to take it as a grain of salt. It truly doesn't mean much, even though I know it feels good to hear the numbers.
